Job Description Summary
The Research Associate II conducts experimental studies in an SRAlab laboratory that requires deep technical expertise in a relevant discipline such as bioengineering, biology, or physiology. The Research Associate II will typically work as part of a multidisciplinary team that will require the ability to translate ones discipline to others who do not contain as deep a knowledge base. The Research Associate II should have an explicit understanding of the types of measurements in the laboratory and be able to develop novel measuring tools independently.

Job Description
The Research Associate II will:
Performs modeling and plans and designs experiments typically quantifying tissue or cellular properties that may include, but are not limited to muscle, tendon, nerve and bone.
Performs and interprets complex statistical analysis.
Prepares technical documents describing results of the experiment.
Performs detailed quality control and variability analysis on assays used within the laboratory.
Performs all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.
Reporting Relationships
Reports directly to the Project Manager
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
Work requires a professional level of knowledge which is acquired by completing three or more years of study beyond a Ph.D. degree in a relevant biomedical discipline. Deep knowledge of research methodology is required.
A high level of analytical ability is necessary in order to design and implement appropriate experiments and to perform complex statistical analysis. Analytic ability may also include mathematical modeling or simulation.
Interpersonal skills necessary to write detailed explanatory reports and articles and to verbally communicate results of research at meetings and conferences. Proven ability to lead and motivate direct reports.
Ability to plan the work of, assign work to and follow-up on the work of a research technician, graduate student or laboratory resident.
Ability to plan and conduct experiments and analyze resulting data while balancing the needs of the laboratory, the institution and the individual.
Working Conditions
Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
