Job Description:

Ardurra is seeking a Field Survey Crew Chief to join our staff in Ocala, FL for work mostly located in Citrus County. This is a full-time position requiring at least 2 years of survey field experience, a good attitude, and the ability to work with a team.


Primary Function:


Apply knowledge and experience to guide crew members, utilize standard survey equipment, robotics , and GPS.  Responsible for data collection, notes and reports. Must have knowledge of, experience with, and be able to operate a variety of survey instruments including total stations, GPS receivers, data collectors (and their software platforms), and automatic levels in the execution and documentation of measurements and observations towards the successful completion of all types of surveys (boundary, topographic, construction layout, as-built, quantity, control, special purpose, etc.).


Primary Duties:



  • Direct field personnel

  • Assist with the preparation of field notes

  • Locate boundary corners using a magnetic location device

  • Properly enter data in the form of coordinates, angles & distances, offsets, and field codes

  • Ensure truck is fully equipped daily

  • Monitor truck for safety issues and maintenance needs

  • Interact with clients and neighbors in a polite and respective manner.

  • Assist with survey-related maintenance of traffic when required.

  • Knowledge of standard survey equipment and procedures is required.

  • Dependable, responsible, reliable, punctual, and trustworthy

  • Assist in the execution of all field activities to conduct boundary, topographic, construction layout, utility and other types of surveying throughout the North Central Florida area.


Education and Experience:



  • High School Diploma or Equivalent. Knowledge of basic math (addition/subtraction, multiplication and division).

  • Good verbal and written communication skills and the motivation to follow instructions completely and accurately while working in rough terrain and inclement weather.

  • Possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.

  • Pass vehicle insurance underwriting to become a qualified driver of company vehicles.

  • Ability to occasionally travel and work out of town from time to time as workload requires

  • Familiarity with the Florida Standards of Practice is a plus.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. over rough terrain may be required. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate various pieces of field equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms, speak, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and smell. Able to get in and out of vehicle multiple times a day; drive 30 to 60 miles daily. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.


Work Environment:


The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential function of this job. The employee works outside in all types of weather conditions, possibly for extended periods of time. The terrain may be rough, steep, wet or swampy. Vegetation may be dense, and insects, snakes or animals may be encountered.
