Position: Finance and Planning Analyst

Job Description:

Working under the supervision of the Director of Finance and Planning, the Finance and Planning Analyst position will be responsible for day-to-day operations, projects, and analysis linked to the goals and objectives for the office, while ensuring compliance with university policies and procedures. This position will support the financial and space operations and budget process for the Division of Academic Affairs. This position must have strong analytical skills, business operational experience, and problem-solving skills as well as the ability and desire to think outside of the box and find new ways to improve processes. This position will work collaboratively with the Budget Office, Office of Sponsored Programs, Office of Sponsored Accounting, and the Schools to manage and support the budgets and accounts in the academic and academic administrative areas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Facilitates the processing of financial activities including purchase requisitions, invoices, expense reimbursements, budget adjustments, journal vouchers, expense chargebacks and salary cost allocations, ensuring compliance with relevant university policies

  • Develops, prepares, and designs reports as needed, identifying appropriate data sets and utilizing data from multiple sources for both routine operations and special long term planning needs

  • Aid in space management coordination needs for the Division of Academic Affairs

  • Assist the Director Finance and Planning in the preparation of the annual budget, multi-year operating and capital budget process, and forecasting for the Division of Academic Affairs, ensuring all materials accurately represent and summarize the schools/ colleges/ offices’ needs

  • Prepare regular financial reporting documentation and coordinate meetings for the division’s academic administrative units ensuring effective and efficient fiscal management and responsibility

  • Coordinates, analyzes, and summarizes various Academic affairs budgets, forecasts, and staffing plans

  • Under the supervision of the Director, serve as a point of contact to the University’s Budget Office on finance and budgetary matters and as needed, attend school/ departmental/ vice provost budget versus actual meetings.

  • Develop, assess, and continuously improve processes to achieve greater efficiencies and improve internal controls.

  • Maintain and manage a repository for all project related materials

  • Perform research on industry best practices and benchmarks to support business processes and leadership decision making

  • Other responsibility and duties as assigned

  • Act as a backup for the Director as appropriate and assigned

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field or equivalent training, preferably in higher education

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an FP&A or related position, managing large budget, preferably in an academic environment

  • Ability to summarize analytical work and present findings in a visually compelling way

  • Strong interpersonal skills with diverse constituents

  • Must have high attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously and a positive attitude.

  • Ability to work across multiple teams, internally and externally, to complete job-related tasks

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Must possess maturity, utmost judgement, business savviness and discretion

Advance knowledge of Microsoft Office products especially Excel (VLOOKUPS, SUMPRODUCT, pivot tables), Word, PowerPoint and
