Overview:


The Department of Philosophy and Political Science in the College of Arts & Sciences at Quinnipiac University seeks a dynamic, student-centered Political Scientist to teach at the undergraduate level. We are looking for applicants in the field of American Politics who specialize in ethnic/racial politics. We are also open to candidates specializing in other areas of American Politics whose expertise meaningfully intersects with race and ethnic politics. Candidates using theoretical, quantitative, interpretive, or historical approaches are equally welcome. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor, with expectations for teaching (four courses per semester), advising students, and engaging in service activities and committees that strengthen the program, department, college, and university community. Our student-centered department has a strong sense of community, and our faculty are highly collaborative in both teaching and research. Responsibilities:



  • Teach, advise, and mentor undergraduate students and help them achieve their academic and career goals

  • Teach courses in race and ethnic politics

  • Teach courses in the American government survey, Introduction to Political Science, American Political Movements, and occasional teaching of our undergraduate methods and senior seminars

  • Engage in service to support the program, department, college and university, which includes attending weekly department meetings and other college and university meetings as required

  • The successful candidate should be a strong communicator who is comfortable responding to requests for media interviews and commentary regarding their area of expertise


Education Requirements:



  • Ph.D. in political science, or a related social science, must be completed by the start of appointment


Qualifications:


  • Experience or a demonstrated commitment to working with diverse student populations and with the effective use of inclusive teaching practices

  • Demonstrated ability to teach courses in race and ethnic politics


  • Preferred Qualifications:



    • Demonstrated success in teaching, preferably at the college level

    • Ability and interest in teaching courses in U.S. national institutions, political psychology, social movements, public policy, survey methodology/polling, or experiential learning pedagogy

    • Experience in curriculum design and development

    • Experience and interest in guiding student internships and other forms of experiential learning

    • Experience seeking funding to support research or teaching
