Position Summary:

The Bowles Center for Alcohol Studies (http://www.med.unc.edu/alcohol) and the Department of Pharmacology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (http://www.med.unc.edu/pharm) invite applicants to apply to our tenure-track faculty position.
We seek a candidate with research interests in understanding mechanisms that underlie substance use disorder(s) or alcohol use disorder, possibly in conjunction with common comorbid conditions. Candidates with expertise in computational approaches including, but not limited to, transcriptomics, proteomics, genomics, and epigenetics are especially encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will be provided a robust startup package and laboratory space with the expectation of leading an independent research program that contributes to the mission of the Bowles Center for Alcohol Studies.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

PhD or MD with significant postdoctoral research experience in pharmacology, neurobiology, or a related field with preference given to those with substance use disorder or alcohol use disorder related research experience. Current Assistant and associate professors are also welcome to apply.


Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

The successful candidate will have a proven record of publication demonstrating expertise in mechanistic studies defining the molecular basis of disease. The successful candidate needs to have outstanding verbal and written communication skills, state-of-the-art experimental laboratory skills, and the ability to effectively collaborate with other investigators, students, fellows and research assistants. The successful candidate will be expected to develop/extend an extramurally funded independent research program that integrates into the themes of the Center for Alcohol Studies. Junior faculty will have a mentoring committee. The selected candidate will also be expected to participate in graduate student training, instruction of medical and dental students, and serve on departmental committees.
