ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The primary purpose of this position is to develop, direct and assess undergraduate academic advising programs within the College of Engineering. Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to undergraduate admissions, undergraduate advising and student services, graduation certification, and specific academic support programs designed to improve retention, enhance academic achievement and professional development. This Assistant Director has supervisory responsibilities that include developing the collective talent of the student services staff to creatively meet current and future needs of the College through professional development, continuous assessment, training and mentoring. This unit provides support to the faculty engaged in specialized upper level advising processes conducted in engineering departments.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position will support the College of Engineering Director of Engineering Student Services in overseeing and directing the College's undergraduate advising and student success programs. The selected candidate will assist in recruiting, training, and supervising academic advisors. The candidate will assist in overseeing the college's orientation program, graduation certification, and academic standards program involving academic appeals, academic regulation petitions, and academic dismissals. The Candidate will also assist the retention programs and student success initiatives such as the teaching of EGN 3000, managing and directing the learning teams and the tutoring program. This position will also assist in date collection and reporting for the unit. An addition, this position will also serve as a college representative on university & college-level committees like the USF Council on Academic Advising. A successful candidate will possess an understanding of how students benefit from a developmental advising approach and will exhibit a high ethic of care and desire for student success.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Engages in strategic planning within the College and recommends academic advising policies that advance initiatives and objectives consistent with College/USF mission and goals. Assesses existing student support programs in the College of Engineering and initiates changes as indicated. Assesses outcomes for the advising unit and ensures that student services quality standards are met through continuous and systematic analysis.
Advising/Services Management: All aspects of advising for students at the lower level, limited services for students at the upper level and supervision of the administrative functions of the unit. Components of advising include providing comprehensive advice to engineering students regarding available degrees, course scheduling, college and university rules and regulations, college/department admissions criteria, degree requirements, referrals to appropriate faculty advisors/programs within the College and at the University level, career counseling appropriate to Engineering majors and available resources. This position is the authority responsible for the maintenance of student advising files and records and ensuring confidentiality and FERPA compliance. Components of service include but are not limited to grade processing, faculty course evaluations, course scheduling, reports, etc. The selection, training, development and direction of the professional staff required to provide academic advising & related services to students in the College of Engineering and to carry out the administrative functions of the unit including the supervision, and evaluation of Engineering advisors. Oversees the graduation certification process for undergraduate engineering students.
Academic Support Programs: Implements and directs programs to increase student success and retention. Develops plans that encourage students to utilize existing programs designed to engage them in research and the profession, improve leadership and communication skills, and improve academic performance and personal growth through involvement. Oversees functions of staff members in the unit to ensure compliance with state/university requirements and unit quality standards.
Designs/implements monitoring strategies and intervention programs for student compliance issues. Serve as the liaison to Undergraduate Studies, the Registrar's Office and various other entities to ensure that degree/catalog/graduation processes are conducted expeditiously and accurately. Conducts regular coding and compliance audits. Monitors academic progress with regard to College continuation requirements. Participates in College accreditation reviews and self studies.
Committees: Supports the Dean's Office in regard to student related policy development and adjudication of student petitions. Serves as the college representative on the Council of Academic Advisors (CAA) and Undergraduate Academic Regulations Committee (ARC) and is vested with the College ARC and CAA vote. Participates with the Undergraduate Coordinators Committee to discuss policy/administrative changes and coordinates updates to the Undergraduate Catalog and College Advising Manual.
Communications: This position is responsible for designing and implementing communication plans primarily for newly admitted students, current undergraduate students, including 3+2 agreements, dual degree programs and other articulated programs. Will also assist with and coordinate orientation sessions for incoming undergraduate students. The Assistant Director informs students of grievance/appeal procedures. These problems can be curricular, procedural, or unique to individual circumstances. Responsible for filing incident reports to facilitate communication or in response to security concerns.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum of five years related exempt experience. OR Equivalent combination of education and experience.
FLSB1310 Equivalency:
4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree.
6 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for master's degree.
PREFERRED:
Masters Degree with a minimum four years of advising experience with the College of Engineering including experience with student success programs, coordinating college's orientation program and graduation certification program. Experience with training academic advisors in routine job duties. Experience with Banner, degreeworks Power BI. Demonstrate ability to organize and lead multiple projects simultaneously.
