JOB DESCRIPTION

Primary purpose:

The primary purpose of this position is to lead hydraulic engineering & facility planning activities for Decarbonization/ clean energy, liquid and gas pipeline. The successful candidate will be working in the Project Management Engineering team, which provides engineering expertise/ support in the area of Decarbonization/ clean energy, liquid and gas pipeline simulation. Studies will be performed on prospects to develop the CO 2 potential and economics of development which requires close cooperation with pipeline operations, engineering, commercial so that costs are generated which allow for economic production.

As a member of the Project Management Engineering team, this position is responsible for leading and technically evaluating the Decarbonization/ clean energy pipeline systems design include CO 2 , NH 3 , and H 2 pipeline systems from the hydraulics standpoint utilizing industry standard software such as SPS, NextGen, OLGA and PIPESIM software. This position will be also responsible for hydraulic modeling and reviewing surge analysis (relief systems and valve timing), capacity optimization and commercial/business development scenario modeling.Minimum requirements:

Education:

  • Master's or bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Petroleum, or Chemical).

Experience/Specific Knowledge:

  • A minimum of 20 years of related pipeline experience
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the management of all the various areas
  • Excellent project management skills, including managing multiple projects under tight deadlines, are essential.
  • Must possess a subject matter expert level of knowledge and application steady-state and transient hydraulic software.
  • Experience in pipeline and facilities engineering evaluations such as hydraulic modeling, pump and compressor performance test.
  • Knowledge in hydraulics, automation, leak detection technologies, modeling, statistical analysis, measurement/instrumentation, and SCADA and how to configure, tune and maintain advanced leak detection systems in a dynamic Control Center environment.
  • Recognized industry technical expert in hydraulic simulations and design.
  • Possesses a thorough knowledge of general Engineering principles and theories.
  • Ability to work in a regulated environment that may include handling sensitive company and customer information.
  • Ability to communicate with management, peers, and across disciplines and companies.
  • Familiar with DOT, EPA, OSHA, and other applicable pipeline safety and environmental regulations.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, SharePoint, PowerPoint, and Outlook


Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

Working Conditions:

  • Will work non-traditional hours as needed.
  • Occasional overtime may be required.
  • Most of the typical workday is spent in an office environment, though this may change depending upon the location assignment. For work performed out of doors, weather conditions vary and can be extreme, depending upon location assignment and may include severe seasonal changes which are primarily influenced by geographic location.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with fellow workers and demonstrate adherence to established safety policies and procedures.
  • Required to carry a cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.

Above the minimum requirements, not required but advantageous in this position:


  • Ph.D. or Master's degree in engineering.
  • Professional Engineering license.
  • Prior experience with CO2 Pipeline and Sequestration operation and design
  • Knowledge of pipeline and facilities advanced hydraulic modeling for both single phase and multiphase flow using industry standard software.
  • Familiar with physical and thermodynamic properties Mixture fluid.
  • Prior experience working with pipeline hydraulic simulation software such as, OLGA Transient, Pipesim, SPS, NextGen, PETEX product software (GAP, Prosper, MBAL, Resolve), MultiFlash, LedaFlow and Hysys
  • Specific knowledge related to the design and installation of pipeline facilities.
  • Experience and knowledge with compressor/pump station and pipeline design.
  • Advanced computer skills.
  • Knowledge and/or application experience with industry standards (DOT 49CFR192, and 195, API, ASME, ANSI, NACE, NEC, etc.).

Compensation: Salary for this role is $180,000-$240,000.Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Working collaboratively with various other design discipline engineers on projects and being a decision maker, driving projects forward and leading critical decisions.
  • Demonstrates leadership in work groups through knowledge of hydraulic analysis and design.
  • Developing robust, reliable, innovative, and cost-effective hydraulic designs.
  • Preparing design reports that detail the calculations/analysis performed and their key findings.
  • Ensuring that all activities adhere to Health and Safety Regulations and Accepted Industry Practices.
  • Validating all deliverables, including calculations, drawings, reports, and specifications, taking the role of a Lead Verifier in accordance with our Quality Assurance (QA) system.
  • Lead steady state and transient simulations activities using industry standard software and prepare technical reports.
  • Strong technical understanding of core hydraulic and or process/pipeline simulation technology
  • Review surge analysis on proposed pipelines to determine if surge relief systems are adequate for projected operational needs and identify solutions to address any potential insufficiencies.
  • Provides expert consultation in areas of design, development, and implementation of hydraulic analysis and surge analysis for liquids pipelines, pumps, and compressors.
  • Provides consultation and project support for hydraulic applications and real-time computer-based computational monitoring.
  • Evaluates model performance against actual pipeline performance to identify and execute improvement opportunities.
  • Review hydraulic and flow assurance design basis, project execution plans, and specifications.
  • Assist Commercial/Business development by modeling potential acquisition and/or expansion projects to help them better understand the hydraulic limitations and/or design needs.
  • Coordinates efforts at all levels with other departments.
  • Interfaces with other engineers and disciplines to review and verify designs.
  • Work with management team to discuss the technical challenges involved with all business development activities.
  • Provided continuous and clear updates for technical works which helps management to set or calibrate the technical objectives.
  • Support Field Engineering teams regarding surge relief design/settings and automated shutdown logic.
  • Support Automation teams regarding valve timing and automated shutdown/slowdown logic.
  • Assist Integrity Engineering teams with ILI tool runs and any potential pressure reductions as it relates to throughput impacts.
  • Provide support for Pre- FEED, FEED studies and HAZOP and HAZID reviews.
  • Participates in the Management of Change (MOC) process and documents Best Practices.
  • Ability to communicate technical information in a manner that can be understood by non-technical personnel and high-level management.
  • Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism.
  • Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully.
