JOB SUMMARY:The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Division of Research and Innovation at Texas Southern University (TSU) invites applicants for a 12-month faculty position. The position is an external grant-funded position. Outstanding candidates from all areas of Pharmaceutical Sciences will be considered. We especially encourage applications from candidates working in the areas of Pharmaceutics, drug discovery and development, especially drug characterization, formulation and delivery. The new faculty member will be expected to carry out a vigorous, externally funded research program, including research projects for graduate students in the PhD program, advising students, and participating fully in teaching the graduate programs. This appointment is non-tenure track and is subject to annual review. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in scholarly research and teaching. Responsibilities for this position will include conducting rigorous academic research, teaching graduate-level courses, and contributing to a dynamic faculty team that will expand the doctoral program in Pharmaceutical Sciences. The work distribution will be approximately 50% research, 40% teaching, and 10% service for the first three years of the appointment.


This is a Grant Funded position.


Essential Duties Summary:



  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses.

  • Develop and maintain a funded research program in pharmaceutical sciences.

  • Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Involve undergraduate and graduate students in research projects.

  • Develop curriculum content.

  • Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to implement departmental programs.

  • Provide service to the department, college, university, public schools, and community.

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Education:

Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Science or a closely related field from an accredited institution.


Required Licensing/Certification:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


Knowledge of:


  • Current software used in teaching, research, and presentations.

  • Policies, procedures, and practices in workplace and laboratory settings.

  • Computational and Statistical Tools such as SAS, Python, R, and Linus.





Skill in:

Work Experience:

Demonstrated experience conducting pharmaceutical research.



Preferred experience:


  • Two or more years of postdoctoral or equivalent research experience.

  • A record of impactful pharmaceutical research publications in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Experience in AI and biomedical science research.

  • Experience teaching in an active learning environment with innovative teaching strategies.

  • Experience writing competitive funding proposals.

  • Experience developing and maintaining a funded research program.

  • Experience mentoring and advising undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Experience fostering a sense of belonging for all students, including traditionally underrepresented populations in STEM.

  • Experience in recruitment and retention of undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Drive to excel in teaching, research, and service.
