SUMMARY : The Research Technician is a grant-funded position and will have a term of one-year, unless extended. The position is responsible for conducting neuroscience research using lab mice. This position also involves preparation of adeno-associated viruses for gene therapy research as well as training undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratory.
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):
Conduct mouse behavioral, feeding studies, breeding, and survival surgery.
Preparation of adeno-associated viruses (AAV) used in gene therapy.
Perform tissue sectioning, antibody labeling, and characterization of antibody staining by confocal microscopy Analyze and interpret data to obtain insights for project progress.
Responsible for preparation of solutions and basic lab maintenance and restocking.
Maintain specialized laboratory equipment through routine cleaning, inventory management, and ensuring equipment is functional by calibration and troubleshooting.
Compile and analyze experimental data through software, spreadsheets, and graphics.
Complies with any quality control policies and procedures and maintains required documentation.
Maintains a safe environment in accordance with standards, policies and safety regulations. Ensures compliance with infection control policies.
Handles and disposes of hazardous and non-hazardous materials in accordance with safety protocols.
Training of undergraduate and MS students in the laboratory.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Biology or related field
Excellent English verbal communication and writing skills
Responsible and dependable
Ability to work well with various people including students, faculty, and staff
Motivated, innovative, and shows initiative
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
