Basic Job Functions:
The Refractory Lead will assist, cover, and provide support to the Refractory Supervisor and the crews in all areas of the day-to-day operations. The Refractory Lead will take a leadership role at all times in the areas concerning Safety, Quality, and Productivity as well as develop the refractory team. Computer skills will be necessary to perform essential daily functions of the job. The Refractory Lead will also be responsible for safely and efficiently assisting and/or preparing ladles, tundishes, and furnaces for the production of steel as needed. The Refractory Lead will work with vendors, manage costs, and ensure appropriate inventory. The Refractory Lead must be able to work in extreme environmental conditions; may be required to cover rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Minimum Requirements:
3 years of meltshop and/or refractory experience in a steel mill production environment
6 months leadership experience in a steel-related environment
