POSITION SUMMARY:


The role of a SCADA Application Developer is to provide critical Gas Control visibility and function for the Summit Utilities Inc. natural gas transmission and distribution system by way of software Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) and understanding of the physical control and monitoring systems it impacts. This position is responsible for the operations, maintenance, design, documentation, testing, and troubleshooting of the HMI system and supporting software. This position will require basic knowledge of database queries, knowledge of computer software, and the basics of electronics systems. The SCADA Applications Developer will ensure that pipeline facilities displayed in the control room are following company and regulatory policy.

The SCADA Applications Developer must be able to work tightly with the Gas Control Department and ensure HMI design conveys clear and concise information while adhering to API RP 1165 and associated rule sets. This role will work under general supervision and resolve routine issues and issues under stressful emergency conditions.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • First level support for Control Room HMI software configuration and visibility
  • First level programming support for Critical Gas Control and informational interdepartmental HMI adds, removes, and changes.
  • Perform historical data analysis, monitoring, and maintenance operations while ensuring critical systems remain available.
  • Ensure strict up-to-date documentation of all adds, removes, and changes for every component related to the HMI software or hardware.
  • Ensure all HMI modifications go through a comprehensive change request and fulfillment process.
  • Ensure high-performance HMI design using programming techniques to include graphical user interface and code backend manipulation.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of code functionality and code performance against lab environments and ensure performance transfers to Control Room hardware.
  • Perform basic database queries against known database structures to ensure appropriate data is available in a timely manner to internal and external parties.
  • Assist in developing HMI disaster recovery plans and techniques that ensure Control Room visibility recovery objectives are achieved and effective.
  • Research technologies and methods to continuously improve HMI operational efficiencies, safety, security, and reliability.


EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • A degree in Information Technology, Computer Science required; or three years of relevant industry knowledge.
  • Experience in SCADA Control System Operations and/or communications in the natural gas or power industry preferred.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES


  • Excellent communication, technical, and analytical skills.
  • Strong background in the energy industry or industrial systems Human Machine Interface (HMI) design is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of database queries, structures, performance metrics, and maintenance needs.
  • Make critical decisions while working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic understanding of computer programming languages and concepts.
  • Ability to understand and strictly follow industry standard practices around Control Room Management and design.
  • Ability to tightly document intricate details of HMI design and surrounding system elements.
  • Effectively communicate with personnel to explain requirements and solutions to individuals at all levels within the organization.
