Job Description Summary The University of South Alabama’s Medical Education department is seeking to hire a Management Systems Specialist II. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.
Essential Functions

These are the job duties required of the position.

Essential Functions
  • Assists in the developing and evaluation of bid specifications.
  • Anticipates and identifies present and future computing needs as it relates to growth in the College of Medicine.
  • Provides user support and diagnosis of computer systems including hardware and software issues in all areas of the COM.
  • Maintains server and software licenses, and installs most current version as required.
  • Maintains PC software and hardware inventory in an organized manner.
  • Configures and maintains extensive computing resources for Medical Education including the Small Group Learning Center, teaching facilities, and the delivery of course examinations.
  • Diagnoses hardware, software, and networking problems on student computers that interfere with the effective delivery of course content and assessments.
  • Collaborates with the Computer Services Center to analyze install, and support all required College of Medicine computing resources including: wired and wireless networking, campus wide software agreements, security implementation and mitigation, active directory account and share management, and major system and support issues.
  • Assists with identifying, locating, and remediating potentially compromised systems to include the removal of malware threats and patching vulnerable systems.
  • Collaborates with the various research, business, and education departments to coordinate all necessary computing and network resources needed.
  • Researches, evaluates and makes recommendations related to software and hardware purchases.
  • Consults with vendors for hardware and software support and repairs as needed.
  • Provides computer technical support to all College of Medicine departments.
  • Provides Google scripting and batch file support of Google Docs.
  • Assists in the developing and evaluation of bid specifications.
  • Analyzes the required computing and networking resources for the installation of laboratory equipment.
  • Analyzes, evaluates, recommends, and specifies any required hardware and software purchases in support of COM.
  • Identifies software that would be cost-effective to purchase through volume licensing.
  • Works with Computer Services Center to develop and maintain databases for departments to include report writing.
  • Abides by and enforces compliance requirements and maintains confidentiality based on established policies.
  • Provides software training as needed for applications such as email, Adobe, and Microsoft Office.
  • Assists with the setup maintenance and backup of COM databases.
  • Communicates effectively and professionally with faculty and staff.
  • Utilizes cost-effective practices.
  • Responds to email, telephone, and service tickets in a timely manner.
  • Creates and updates the computer specification lists annually with the required and recommended hardware and software for student laptops.
  • Diagnoses hardware, software, and networking problems on student computers that interfere with the effective delivery of course content and assessments.
  • Assists with identifying and remediating potential student virus or malware infections.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required.
  • Related duties as required.
