Engineering Manager - Maintenance PS NA




Location: Mosel, WI



Opportunity



The Maintenance Leader will play a crucial role in ensuring the continuous operation of our production equipment and facilities. This role involves managing a team of maintenance technicians, coordinating maintenance activities, implementing preventive maintenance programs, and troubleshooting equipment issues to minimize downtime and optimize productivity. This individual will be a process/continuous improvement resource for the Kohler Power System Buildings. By working with their Staff, Plant Maintenance and Suppliers, they will develop the team in process for continuous improvement. Will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance of equipment, facilities, and grounds to ensure operations is able to stay running. Will have to manage the budget and headcount to levels that both support the operation and recognize financial constraints. Ensure proper observance of company policies, safety regulations and necessary training to effectively perform responsibilities.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES




Leadership



1. Develop a centralized maintenance location, team and management system


  • Plan and prioritize maintenance activities based on production schedules, equipment criticality, and resource availability.
  • Conduct regular inspections of machinery, tools, and facilities to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Coordinate with production, engineering, and procurement teams to plan and execute maintenance projects, upgrades, and modifications.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with equipment suppliers, service providers, and contractors to ensure timely and cost-effective maintenance support.
  • Monitor and analyze equipment performance data, downtime reports, and maintenance records to identify trends, root causes of failures, and opportunities for optimization.
  • Implement preventive maintenance programs, predictive maintenance techniques, and reliability-centered maintenance strategies to maximize equipment uptime and lifespan.



  • 8. Develop and direct the division's maintenance program, including policies, objectives, plans, procedures, and systems in accordance with established company specifications.


    9. Assume ownership of the divisional maintenance budget and cost management. This includes monthly/yearly financial projections of maintenance costs, and all maintenance financial goals and objectives.


    10. Develop a system to manage spare parts and lead the adherence to it, ensuring that the right parts at the right levels are stocked in maintenance stores.


    11. Manage EHS area inspections, 5S of workshops and parts staging areas, and ongoing safe workplace activities.


    12. Set expectations and hold all members of the team accountable for results.


    13. Ensure compliance with all applicable safety and environmental regulations, codes, and standards


    14. Manage and coordinate the work of maintenance staff, including hiring, training, evaluating performance, and providing guidance and direction as needed.



    Communication



    1. Spend 10-15% of time on the floor keep a pulse on the operation and make space for 2-way communication with Skilled Tradesmen and Engineering Technicians.


    2. Audit Level 1 and monthly communication meetings to ensure consistency and effectiveness.


    3. Attend Level 2 pass-on meetings twice a week to set expectation, communicate pertinent information, and to solicit feedback from each crew.


    4. Attend a Level 3 meeting daily for support and resolution of open action items.


    5. Attend a weekly Level 4 meeting.



    Continuous Improvement



    1. Analyze critical and recurring repair problems, initiate required actions and provide technical assistance and follow-up.


    2. Drive quality data in SAP to enable effective quantitative analysis of work order data.


    3. Propose new and improved maintenance planning and control systems, affecting production, quality, capacity and cost. Evaluate proposals in terms of the short-term and long-term business needs of the division.


    4. Own PM program and improve yield through support of TPM, Industry 4.0 and optimization. Help prepare location for the future of more digital automation.


    5. Take an active role in initiating cost reduction projects through equipment and process changes.


    6. Drive and support engineering requests that address equipment obsolescence's and reoccurring maintenance issues.


    7. Improve the competency of Skilled Trades associates through leading the development and implementation of a robust training program with hands-on focus.


    8. Champion the recruitment of talent to advance the organization.



    RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS



    Supervisory Relationships:


    1. Reports to Director Operations, Power Systems


    2. Directly over sees maintenance supervisors in union and non-union locations and additional staff that supports maintenance operations


    Organization Relationships:


    1. Frequent contact with all levels of manufacturing management to provide maintenance support, advocate for maintenance, and manage projects.


    2. Frequent contact with manufacturing engineering in the design and implementation of new equipment.


    3. Frequent contact with HR to manage through associate issues in compliance with company policy


    4. Frequent contact with associates located in different buildings


    5. Frequent contact with safety to help improve ergonomics and achieve safety goals



    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS



    • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, will consider someone outside of degree with exact experience but has equivalent competency and experience.


    • 7-10 years work experience in an engineering, operations environment; experience in a high-volume manufacturing job shop is preferred


    • Demonstrated history of leading a diverse team, driving engagement and high performance


    • Preferred candidates will have earned and maintenance credentials (CMRP, MMP, CRE, or equivalent)


    • Knowledge of safety regulations, quality standards, and environmental requirements applicable to manufacturing operations.

    The salary range for this position is $113000 - $143950. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate's experience, their education, and the work location. Available benefits include medical, dental, vision & 401k.
