Manager - Electrical Engineering NPD




Location: Sheboygan, WI



Opportunity



This is a global role responsible for creation and validation of new products, starting with feasibility study, concept design, proceeding through final design, development, and design validation.




  • Determines and manages best practices for all development steps.


  • Researches, identifies, and procures new development tools (equipment, software, etc.) enabling higher levels of efficiency and productivity within the department.


  • Manages and gives technical guidance to the Development Engineers within the New Product Engineering department.


  • Coaches, guides, and mentors Development Engineers to maximize each individual's contribution to the business, and promotes learning and growth of Technical Specialties as assigned.


  • Researches, identifies and procures new development tools (equipment, software, etc.) enabling higher levels of efficiency and productivity with the department.




SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES




  • Instill discipline into the development process, including, but not limited to, competitive benchmarking, prototype design verification, and production design validation. Promote adherence to the published NPD process and rigorous use of the DVP&R. Ensure appropriate test methods are applied to all product development activities and that testing outputs align with divisional product plans and Engineering goals.


  • Evolve the Engineering organization to a higher performance level. Build technical breadth and depth via effective hiring, training, and development of Engineering staff. Evaluate and sponsor the continued technical growth of the department's human resources.

  • Identify the need for and specify new test systems in accordance with new product development technical requirements and schedules.


  • Maintain awareness of technical advances in competitive products, and design verification and validation techniques, throughout industry for potential application to products of the division.


  • Improve Engineering systems and processes to increase efficiency and effectiveness. Create standard test reports and templates for consistent use on all generator product lines. Empower Development Engineers with tools that enable higher-quality output, including hardware, software, and instrumentation.


  • Ensure the roles and responsibilities of subordinates are clearly defined and communicated. Review and appraise the qualifications and work performance records of each subordinate periodically, as prescribed by Company policy. Recommend the promotion, dismissal, or change in compensation of subordinates in accord with Company schedules.


  • Review personnel issues with subordinates. Take any and all necessary action consistent with Company policies and procedures to resolve. Inform and consult with supervisors on adverse developments or conditions.



Skills/Requirements


  • Position requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.

  • 7+ years of broad engineering management experience in relevant fields including successful product development contributions.

  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and customers and a practical working knowledge of marketing, finance, materials, manufacturing, as well as engineering functions.

  • Prior leadership experience preferred.

The salary range for this position is $122,750 - $156,850. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate's experience, their education, and the work location. Available benefits include medical, dental, vision & 401k.
