SALARY : The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from: $83804 - $104,756
Job Summary:
The engineer will review, analyze, and coordinate moderate to complex planned construction projects, maintenance requirements and responses to system disturbances related to the operation of the Transmission & Distribution (T&D) System. Approve planned outages and clearance requests. Coordinate work with other departments within UI and other outside system operators (e.g., ISO, CONVEX, NUSCO). Work is to be completed with minimal guidance. The incumbent must be available for on-call, as necessary.
Responsibilities
Perform moderately complex system analyses, design and calculations using std methodology & principles & other viable approaches.
Develop alternate methods or design concepts to resolve problems or to improve processes/services.
Solves moderately complex system operating problems. Take a new perspective on established solutions. (e.g., outages, system disturbances, power quality, load flow studies, maintenance recommendations).
Prepare, maintain, and understand drawings (e.g., schematics, one-line diagrams). Develop and specify equipment, assemble documents and other requirements for assignments of moderate to complex level of difficulty.
Represent Operate Electric System (OES) on assigned project teams.
Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience and provide guidance to other team members on OES issues. (e.g., review and evaluate proposals and projects).
Guide or mentor others. Provides expertise to operators, dispatchers, engineers & consultants.
Interprets & make recommendations with respect to customer & stakeholder needs.
Explains difficult issues & works to establish consensus.
Promotes cross functional teamwork on assigned tasks and projects. Assist in guiding and mentoring engineers in OES.
Provides direction for resources outside of the department.
Works independently to address std & non-std system operating situations.
Apply design stds., industry codes, design criteria, guidelines & UI polices/procedures. (e.g., planned system outage and clearance requests, coordinate system restoration).
Interprets processes and standards related to OES.
Recommend solutions and best practices for standard and non- standard situations.
Represents OES on projects, task forces and studies.
Develop business cases & manage small projects/processes/initiatives or teams in accordance with applicable UI guidelines.
Coordinate phases of OES work for assigned portions of a project/program. (e.g., clearance requests)
Plan, schedule, monitor, control budget/estimates, for assigned tasks and/or projects.
Possess in-depth experience, knowledge and skills in distribution design and operations, along with related business practices and procedures (e.g., design criteria, standards, NESC).
Able to explain difficult issues and work to establish consensus.
Able to work in a cross-functional team and guide or mentor other team members.

Education & Experience Required: BS/BA Degree Experience: Requires a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited college/university plus 2-5+ years' experience performing engineering duties or an A.S. Electrical Engineering degree from an ABET accredited university plus 9 years' experience in Engineering with UI Engineering Training Curriculum (e.g., ECNE-PUI) or equivalent is required.
