Job Description:

The Controls Technician is responsible for analyzing, diagnosing, and repairing highly complex electronic, electrical, and mechanical equipment. This includes working with low voltage HVAC units, manufacturing equipment, compressors, and vacuum pumps. A comprehensive knowledge of industrial electrical/electronic repair and maintenance, as well as mechanical knowledge and skills is required. (This is meant to be a guide. Duties may vary dependent upon management.)

Essential Position Functions:


  • Safely work with and troubleshoot 480v 3 Phase voltage.

  • Troubleshoot & repair machines following all machine and company safe practices and safety rules.

  • Report all unsafe conditions and hazards to management.

  • Document all inspections, repairs, parts usage using the MP2 maintenance software.

  • Ensure correct product quality and machine operation after inspections, repairs, and upgrades.

  • Assure guards and interlocks are in place and operational.

  • Minimize machine downtime through completion of scheduled preventative maintenance tasks.

  • Ensure equipment areas are cleaned after each repair or inspection.

  • Ensure maintenance shop is cleaned at the completion of shift.

  • Estimate materials and supplies needed for successful and timely repairs.

  • Other duties as required.

Education and/or Experience:


  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • (8) Years of journey level experience in maintenance, repair, and installation of electronic and electrical equipment and industrial electrical and electronic control systems; or any equivalent combination of related training and experience.

  • Ability to interpret and work from schematics, sketches, and blueprints.

  • Considerable knowledge of the standard tools, meters, methods, theories, materials, and practices of mechanical, electrical, and electronic trades.

  • Considerable knowledge of the installation, alteration, repair and maintenance of low voltage electrical systems and equipment associated with assignment.

  • Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions involved in work with low voltage.

  • Considerable knowledge of the operating principles and repair techniques applicable to electronic equipment.

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Experience with use of/knowledge of hand tools.

  • Basic knowledge of sensors, counters, vacuum, and pneumatic systems.

  • Experience with preventative maintenance software preferred.

  • Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) skills and experience with Allen Bradley, Siemens, Texas Instruments, Omron, Automation Direct, Bosch Rexroth software.

  • Considerable knowledge of Sullair Air Compressor, Zeks Air Dryers & Aerzen Vacuum Pumps

  • Experience with shop tools Sharp Manual Mill, Drill Press, & Kaast G Turn Lathe.

  • Ability to prioritize and complete assignments accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Able to effectively handle multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral and written communications skills.

  • Must be able to read and communicate in English, for safe and effective performance of the job and business operations.

  • Must be able to work alone, and with a team.

  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check.

  • Regularly required to walk and stand continuously for long periods of time.

  • Ability to distinguish a full range of color.

  • Ability to work at heights of 30' or less.

  • Possess basic to intermediate mathematical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

  • Utilize powered ancillary/various equipment as needed to perform duties.

  • Lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to push/pull/leverage up to 75lbs.

Mental Demands

  • Regularly required to use written and oral communication skills.

  • Will interact regularly with managers and staff.

  • Must be able to work independently with little supervision.

Work Environment

  • Employee works primarily in a fast-paced manufacturing / warehouse environment.

  • Excessive noise environment. Hearing protection is required and provided.
