Job Overview

The overall responsibility of the Quality Assurance Specialist is to perform tasks related to maintaining and continually improving the Quality Management System Processes and perform production part inspections.

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Assist Plant Management in the establishment, implementation and sustainment of quality initiatives.
  • Perform functional reviews to ensure products being received from suppliers meet quality standards.
  • Perform functional reviews to ensure production is following quality standards and customers' specifications.
  • Gather and report quality data and metrics in an accurate and timely manner as well as take actions on opportunities.
  • Initiate and participate in corrective actions and problem solving activities to deliver operational excellence.
  • Increase profitability through measured improvements.
  • Create reports as required and ensure data is reported accurately and timely.
  • Follow quality procedures to test, diagnose and repair issues such as field repairs and resolving internal nonconforming reports.
  • Perform Pre-delivery inspections.
  • May be involved in processing customer returns including but not limited to collecting and reporting information related to warranty claims and RMA's.
  • Provide reliable support to all departments as required.
  • Inspects materials and products daily to ensure quality criteria are met.
  • Audit processes daily to ensure effectiveness.
  • Respond to quality issues and proactively addresses improvement opportunities to avoid reacting to problems.
  • Review scrap and troubleshoot nonconforming conditions.
  • Responsible for assisting in meeting production demands, as required.
  • Perform required incoming and outgoing product inspections including first article inspections.
  • Perform impact testing, as required
  • Perform random and scheduled line checks.
  • Under the direction of the quality leader may develop and initiate standards and methods for inspection, testing and evaluation.
  • Partner with other functions to drive operational excellence and adherence to standards.
  • May be asked to assist with internal and external quality audits to ensure compliance to policies, procedures, standards, and specifications.
  • Adhere to all company policies, including all safety and quality requirements.
  • Creates and sustains a safe environment including encouraging and maintaining clean and organized work areas.
  • Exercise good sound judgement in decision making when performing assigned accountabilities and projects.
  • Perform new product validations and inspections.
  • Create, maintain, and improve work instructions.
  • Perform suspect product testing, diagnosing and analysis as required.
  • Point person on quality concerns.
  • Conduct supplier validation.
  • Assist with improving and maintaining the ISO 9001 requirements.
  • May be asked to assist in maintaining Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and internal scheduled audits.
  • Assist in maintaining and improving all aspects of the Quality Management System.
  • Support sales and manufacturing by resolving field issues.
  • Under the direction of the quality leader and engineering may diagnose and create engineering changes toward improving product.
  • Establish improvement processes regarding customer returns.
  • Provide appropriate communication to quality leader and plant management to ensure targets are met and or impediments are solved.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 3 years of experience in a quality role
  • Able to prioritize work and manage time effectively
  • Able to maintain reliable attendance
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Management System including all the processes related to quality
  • Ability to read and write proficiently
  • Must be capable of reading prints
  • Able to perform measurement and analysis of product
  • Capable of using measuring tools such as calipers and scales
  • Demonstrate proficient usage of computer applications
  • Good communication skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to learn and use programs such as Syspro, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
  • Able to work in a team environment
  • Able to interact at different levels within and outside the organization in a positive manner
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to work in a hot humid environment for extended periods of time.

Must be able to remain stationary with intermediate walking throughout the shift. Frequently lift parts weighing around 10 to 50 pounds alone and parts more than 50 pounds with assistance and must be able to transport these up to 20 feet.

Must be able to operate the hand tools and write legible. Must be able to position self to maneuver around parts, material, and molds.

Must be able to communicate effectively in English.
