The UI Heart and Vascular Center is seeking a full time (100%) Senior Imaging Technologist to operate digital angiography imaging equipment, physiologic recorder and analysis equipment. Perform scrub/circulating duties during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; facilitate handoff reporting while providing effective and efficient communication with patient/family and other customers of the lab. Under limited supervision.

Work Schedule:

  • 4 - 10 hour Day shifts with Rotating day off (Monday - Friday)
  • Night/Weekend/Holiday on-call assignment

Duties to Include:

  • Operates angiography imaging
  • Operates various analysis equipment; cardiac output computers, oxygen consumption monitors, oximeters, and hemochron machines.
  • Operates pressure injection systems for the delivery of contrast material to the patient as ordered by the cardiologist.
  • Prepares and operates the Intra-aortic Balloon Pump under the supervision and order of the cardiologist.
  • Maintains the operating condition of all radiologic equipment by means of quality control checks.
  • Performs general maintenance/cleaning and simple troubleshooting of all radiologic equipment, and initiates repair of equipment when needed.
  • Performs sterile table set-up and post procedure clean up.
  • Performs circulating duties including patient care, basic and advanced cardiovascular life support, vital sign monitoring, and preparation of the procedure site and accurate leveling of pressure transducers.
  • Provides instruction/orientation to trainees, students, and other hospital personnel on equipment operation, safety precautions, and procedures.
  • Assists the clinical supervisor with inventory and ordering of supplies as requested.
  • Shares on-call responsibilities.
  • Maintains current knowledge of developments in radiologic technology and related subjects by attending.
  • Meetings, continuing education programs, participation in professional organizations, and/or reading journals and publications. Follows general policies and procedures in accordance with regulations of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, the Department of Internal Medicine, and UI Heart and Vascular Center.
  • Demonstrates acceptance of responsibility; pride in work performed; and flexibility in acceptance of assignments while consistently maintaining professional behavior and appearance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Requirement:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Radiologic Technology or other Allied Health Sciences discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience Requirements:

  • 6 mos. imaging tech experience required (Cath or EP setting preferred).
  • Proven capacity to function with a high degree of autonomy while actively collaborating within a multi-disciplinary team is required.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to respond to on-call within 20-30 minutes is required.

Certification/Licensure Requirements:

  • Certification in American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/or other radiologic related technological certification required.
  • Iowa Permit to Practice by the State of Iowa for all technologists operating ionizing radiation emitting equipment required.
  • Current certification in Basic and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support required.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 1 year imaging tech experience (Cath or EP setting preferred) desired.
  • Previous experience using electronic medical records desired.
  • Knowledge of University policies, procedures and regulations desired.
  • Membership in position-related professional societies desired.
