Under the direction of the Nurse Director, the Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting physicians, nurse practitioners and nurses with evaluation, management and treatment of patients during office visits and other tasks related to the visit consistent with training and skills. The role of the medical assistant is to assure efficient patient flow through the office setting, to maintain neat, clean and safe patient care areas and to promote patient satisfaction by interacting with patients in a professional, friendly manner consistent with their needs.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides safe, efficient and compassionate patient care under the supervision of the Nurse Manager
Provides care appropriate to the age group of patients on the assigned units as described in full profile
Facilitates flow of patients from waiting room to examination rooms or offices in a timely manner to meet scheduled appointment times
Greets patient in waiting room and escorts to exam room
Assists with visit process: checks patient identification (uses 2 identifiers)
Instructs patient how to prepare for the provider, assisting as necessary
Anticipates and sets up special equipment and/or supplies needed for the patient visit
Alerts the provider when the patient is ready and communicate pertinent clinical information
Assists and directs patient through check out process when visit is complete
Cleans and prepares exam room for next patient
Observes, obtains, reports and records vital signs, height and weight, pain level, allergies and medications, documenting necessary info into LMR
Conducts a brief focused intake of the patient, including interval changes
Provides a variety of complex patient treatments and procedures according to standard policies and procedures which may include, but not limited to: Specimen Collection or Tests during visit which may include phlebotomy, clean voided specimen, stool for occult blood, urine HCG, assisting with cultures
Prepares and packages all specimens for specimen transport assuring that all labeling is accurate
Assist providers with exams, procedures and treatments as required
Prepares and applies pulse oximetry probe placement and 02 saturation measurement on patient as needed
Able to set up oxygen (portable and wall), propac monitor, 02 sat monitor and portable suction
Participates in daily operational activities necessary for a safe patient and staff environment and ensuring that Joint Commission standards are maintained
Checks all unit emergency equipment as required, documenting date and name on appropriate log
Check department refrigerator temps and records on a daily log
Assumes responsibility for the maintenance of a neat, organized and well stocked exam and supply room
Cares for medical equipment and supplies and monitors sterilization of appropriate equipment
Assists with identified clerical duties (i.e. chart prep) as directed

Qualifications
Qualifications:
Completion of Training Certificate Program required
Prior 1-3 years of experience required
Skills/Abilities/Compete ncies Required:
Basic computer skills necessary
Good customer service and communication skills with ability to deal with a wide range of personality types is necessary; ability to deal with diverse cultural backgrounds
Good organizational skills to handle multiple tasks in a busy environment.
