LabConnect improves lives by partnering with pharmaceutical and biotech companies, and clinical research organizations (CROs) to accelerate the development of new medicines around the world.

We are an independent, global, one-stop-shop focused on delivering Central Laboratory Services that are tailor-made, timely and flexible to meet the evolving study demands of traditional to increasingly complex trials. Additionally, we provide Functional Service Provider (FSP) Solutions, supporting our clients with scientific and technical expertise, acting as an extension of their team, coordinating all laboratory related needs, advising on strategies for lab data collection and providing end-to-end analytical and logistical solutions.

Summary:

The Executive Director, Laboratory Services is a key member of the operational leadership team and provides direct leadership, accountability, and direction in the translation of business strategies into organizational initiatives across the laboratory services departments (vendor relations, quoting, and selection) to meet current and future business needs. This involves building strong business relationships and working closely with other service line leadership teams and subject matter experts. Additionally, this role will promote the expansion of our service range and geographic spread in support of our growth initiatives.

General responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Provides oversight and guidance for Laboratory Services globally through hands-on leadership and directing the management teams within Laboratory Services
  • Builds and executes the Laboratory Services strategy, framework, and structure in an accelerated timeframe.
  • Demonstrates crisp leadership style as a motivator, communicator and uniter of the team. Evaluates talent and driving behaviors aligned with Company Mission and Values. Clearly and consistently communicates expectations and the organization's cultural norms with ease and shares sense of purpose to achieve the vision.
  • Develops and drives the implementation of a vendor strategy while maintaining operational performance and network delivery timeframes.

  • Owns the relationship with established vendors and has a deep knowledge of the contracts in parallel to the organizations processes.
  • Ensures vendor performance is regularly assessed and meets contractual requirements, establishing the performance expectations and resolving any performance issues via appropriate remedy plans on service and fiscal impacts based on the contract.
  • Provide oversight to ensure vendor resources are in place and in partnership with key leadership members have specific plans developed and executed to achieve service and installation goals are met.
  • Identify key metrics and levers, monitoring results against goals, ensuring "get well" plans are in place timely and monitored.
  • Lead the evaluation of outside service providers, vendors, and contractors; provide direction in the development of SOWs; participates in contract terms and condition negotiations.
  • Develops process and tools to optimize vendor onboarding process focusing on ensuring readiness day one with a focus on customer experience.

  • Partner with Business Development to drive reciprocal sales from our large vendors.
  • Participate in vendor-sponsored events which focus primarily on future products and services, industry trends, vendor strategic direction and similar topics.

Education/Experience/Skills:


  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in life sciences. MBA Preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership roles in laboratory and vendor management experience, ideally in a central lab, large hospital system or similar environment.
  • Deep understanding of laboratory services, lab vendors, sites, and/or scientific/technical affairs.
  • Global work experience with teams and clients across cultures and time zones.
  • Experience in building teams and leading across divisions, accelerating change, and transforming teams.
  • Transformation-oriented leader with the perseverance and open-mindedness to lead and drive paradigm shifts and gets energy from change.
  • Excellent communicator with a confident and collaborative style and adept at aligning internal and external stakeholders.
  • Hands-on operator and adaptive leader who can reinvent the playbook and evolve the business for the current ecosystem.
  • Ability to manage challenging and sensitive issues which require novel solutions and strategic communications.
  • Ability to consult with internal and external stakeholders to diagnose and resolve operational issues.
  • Presence, judgement, communication, and client-engagement skills to effectively operate at the leadership level.

Location/Travel:


  • Ideally located in Raleigh, Johnson City and/or Cleveland area
  • Remote/Hybrid, in office for key meetings at one of these locations
  • Travel as needed
