Job Description:

Wor-Wic Community College is accepting applications for a full-time child care teacher to create and manage an environment conducive to the learning and safety of children enrolled at the child development center. This position is considered a mandatory reporter for the Department of Human Services. 

Essential Duties

The following list is not intended as, nor should it be construed as, exhaustive of all responsibilities, skills or working conditions associated with this position.

  • Creates and manages an environment conducive to the learning and safety of children enrolled at the center and ensures children's basic needs, like nutritional and developmental education, are met
  • Supervises student assistants and credit students who are working with children in the classroom
  • Communicates information about classroom activities and/or concerns to parents
  • Assists the director with identifying and ordering classroom materials and supplies
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Three semesters / 45 clock hours of approved infant/toddler coursework -OR- six semesters / 90 clock hours of approved early childhood coursework
  • Nine clock hours of approved training
  • Three clock hours in Americans with Disabilities (ADA) compliance
  • Infant-toddler teacher must have approved training in supporting breastfeeding practices
  • One year of supervised experience working with preschoolers in an approved setting -OR- one year of college (30 semester hours) -OR- a combination of experience and college that equals one year
  • Human relations skills
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with small children and lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Must be at least 19 years of age
  • Criminal and child protective services background checks, current infant and child CPR certification, current first aid certification (or obtain immediately after hire), pre-employment medical report and approval from the Maryland Department of Education, Office of Child Care required
  • Preference will be given to candidates with an associate degree

Supplemental Information

This is a full-time standard support staff position with excellent fringe benefits. The starting hourly rate for this position will likely fall between $20.82 and $25.51.
