SUMMARY:

We are seeking a dynamic and commercially savvy Director of Logistics to join our corporate logistics team in Atlanta. This high-energy individual will work with our fleet management, trucking, LTL (Less-Than-Truckload), parcel, and courier delivery services. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of logistics and transportation processes and be motivated to drive excellence in a world-class logistics team.

Location: Smyrna, GA (near Battery center)


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement logistics strategies that align with company goals and enhance operational efficiency. Drive innovation and continuous improvement across all logistics functions.
  • Fleet Management: Work with management of our fleet, ensuring optimal performance, maintenance, and cost-effectiveness. Implement best practices for fleet operations and monitor key performance indicators.
  • Transportation Oversight: Work with trucking operations, LTL, parcel, and courier deliveries. Ensure timely and cost-efficient transportation solutions while maintaining high service standards.
  • Process Optimization: Analyze and refine logistics processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance customer satisfaction. Utilize data-driven insights to make informed decisions.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate and work within a high-performing logistics team. Foster a collaborative and results-oriented environment. Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for team members.
  • Commercial Acumen: Leverage commercial insights to drive business growth. Identify opportunities for strategic partnerships and negotiate contracts with carriers and suppliers.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Collaborate with internal departments, customers, and external partners to ensure seamless logistics operations. Address and resolve any issues that may arise.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and safety standards. Implement and enforce best practices to maintain a safe working environment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directly manages four to eight technical professionals.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience: Proven experience in logistics management with a strong background in fleet management, trucking, LTL, parcel, and courier deliveries.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.
  • Skills: Exceptional command of logistics and transportation processes. Proficiency in logistics software and tools. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Attributes: High-energy, self-motivated, and passionate about achieving operational excellence. Demonstrated commercial savvy and strategic thinking.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

A 4-year degree in a technical field, or related studies.

3 years of experience with SPR corporate applications.

5 years of experience managing teams.

5 years of experience in the logistics or transportation fields.

Knowledge of and aptitude for computers and systems required.

Knowledge of SQL or other programming languages a plus.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Experience with Microsoft Office applications required.

Experience with large scale applications required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS:

Must be detail oriented and exceptional in organization techniques. Must be self-motivated, with ability to set and achieve goals, and set priorities of multiple tasks in order to meet deadlines.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and make sound business process decisions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
