Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgeon Joint Faculty Opportunity between Cincinnati Children's Hospital and Kentucky Children's Hospital (KCH) in Lexington, Kentucky
Cincinnati Children's is inviting applications for a Congenital Heart Surgeon. The individual selected will join the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Cincinnati Children's which is comprised of a team dedicated to the most progressive surgical care of children with cardiothoracic pathology. Our research and innovation efforts within the division are well established and highly productive in several areas, including basic science, virtual reality, outcome, and translational research. We have multiple collaborations with the Divisions of Cardiology, Molecular Cardiovascular Biology, as well as a myriad of other divisions throughout CCHMC. As one of the three integrated components of the Heart Institute [Cardiothoracic Surgery, Cardiology, & Molecular Cardiovascular Biology], a multidisciplinary business unit within Cincinnati Children's, our division has enjoyed a highly esteemed profile internationally as an innovative leader in the management of pediatric and congenital cardiac patients.
While hired through Cincinnati Children's, the faculty appointment associated with this opportunity is granted by the University of Cincinnati (UC) whereby the Division has formed a strong collaborative relationship with leadership in cardiothoracic surgery. Surgeons within the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Cincinnati Children's may perform surgery at several locations. This position is to be a full faculty member in the Cincinnati Children's division of Congenital Heart Surgery and report to the Chief of the Division, Carl L. Backer, MD.
The selected candidate for this role will primarily operate at Kentucky Children's Hospital (KCH) in Lexington, Kentucky and thus will need to live within the Greater Lexington Area. The University of Kentucky will also grant a faculty appointment opportunity. The surgeon will support the development and growth of the Joint Pediatric and Congenital Heart Program (JPCHP) with CCHMC while directly working day to day with the Chief Cardiothoracic Surgeon at KCH. This role will include, when desired, doing jointly agreed upon high complexity cases from the UK at CCHMC.
The JPCHP seeks to strengthen an already existing and successful heart program at KCH through shared conferences, resources, and quality improvement (QI) initiatives. By pooling expertise and resources, the partners aim to elevate the standard of care to a broader range of patients, potentially reaching those who may not have had access to certain specialized Congenital Heart services. The JPCHP reflects a strategic effort to enhance care delivery, optimize infrastructure, and most importantly, benefit patients within the communities served.
