Performs delegated competency validated patient observation functions and applies technical skills of a limited uncomplicated nature. Remotely provides continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients using audio/visual technology. Verbally redirects the patient from engaging in risky behaviors. Following department procedures and escalation process, summons unit staff if the patient requires assistance. Knowledgeable and supportive of patient and institutional confidentiality and related policies.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

Maintains electronic visual & auditory observation of patients with safety concerns for up to 10 patients (depending on patient acuity). Verbally redirects patient over digital 2-way audio device that is in patient room. Immediately summons the nursing staff if the patient requires.
Participates in hand-off of pertinent information/behavior about assigned patients when arriving on unit and upon completion of shift assignment.
Seeks help or advice as soon as possible when patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others. Participates in a collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues. Assures patient environment safety. Seeks assistance with removal of any potential safety hazard from room and reports findings to nursing staff.
Maintains all required documentation as identified on initiation, during observation, and discontinuation of continuous video monitoring.
Demonstrates sound knowledge base and actions in the care of reporting observations for age specific patient populations to the RN.
Establishes and maintains courteous and effective relationships with patients, visitors, co-workers, and other members of the health care team; demonstrates sensitivity and awareness to the needs of patients, visitors and co-workers and responds promptly to verbal and/or written instructions.
Maintains a safe and orderly work environment, thorough cleaning and straightening of area, following specific departmental procedures/instructions, daily.
Performs related and delegated tasks when necessary such as setting up or discharging special equipment, answering the phone and taking and relaying messages.
Attends all mandatory hospital in-services in accordance with any HR and other hospital policies.
Maintains confidentiality of patient information (HIPAA).

Current American Heart Association CPR certification required.
Basic computer operations skills required.
Six months of prior direct, patient care work experience in a health care facility is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to utilize universal safety precautions and to act appropriately in emergency situations.
Ability to recognize problems and to identify and implement a course of action required.
Ability to read, write, and speak English in order to follow and give instructions accurately and clearly and able to communicate effectively using a microphone and headset.
The ability to learn a variety of tasks and follow instructions with minimal errors. The ability to ensure the confidentiality and rights of all patients and departmental documents is required. Ability to complete documentation/forms related to observation of patient.
Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs.
