Job Description:

St. Norbert College, a nationally-ranked, private, Catholic, liberal arts college is seeking an Assistant Manager of Ruth's Marketplace. As the Assistant Manager, you'll oversee the daily operations of the meal service plan and ensure the smooth functioning of the Marketplace during breakfast and lunch. This role puts you on the front lines, supporting the "front of the house" team, addressing customer service needs, and resolving issues as they arise.



Work hours consist of an 8-hour shift, scheduled between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday, depending on staffing needs. This position will work one dinner per week and is on call every third weekend. Summer hours are determined by conference business needs. This position works special event weekends as needed to support College business (i.e. Summer Orientation, Welcome Weekend, Alumni Reunion Weekend, Commencement weekend, etc.).



Specific responsibilities:



  • Manage the staff and operational aspects of breakfast and lunch service at Ruth's Marketplace, collaborating closely with the PM Assistant Manager to ensure seamless daily operations. You'll also coordinate and implement staffing and layout plans for special student event meals, summer contract dining, and the commencement meal.




  • Hire, mentor, and manage employment-related responsibilities for ten direct reports, including conducting annual performance evaluations.




  • Ensure the safe operation of equipment and uphold food preparation and service sanitation standards. Enforce and follow all Dining Services policies and procedures.




  • Facilitate staff interaction with other dining departments, such as Production, Catering, Campus Card Services, and Event Services.




  • Collaborate daily with the AM Sous Chef and Assistant Head Chef to ensure smooth meal plan execution and efficient meal service. Support the Marketplace Manager with tasks such as electronic menu updates, social media content, and posting nutrition information.




  • Provide support with administrative tasks, including tracking and reporting on budget expenditures.




  • Perform additional duties as assigned.




  • Attend College required training. Regular attendance is required.




  • Work in a manner that is aware of personal safety and the safety of others and observes safety, health and sanitation codes, regulations, or practices required by the College or governmental authority.





Supervision Exercised Over:



  • 10 full-time Marketplace staff




  • 3 part-time Marketplace Helpers




  • College and high school student staff





Required Minimum Qualifications



  • High School Diploma or equivalent.




  • Associate's Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management preferred.




  • 3 to 5 years of successful experience in a food service setting.




  • 3 to 5 years of successful experience in staff supervision.




  • Serve Safe Certification desired.




  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse campus environment or commitment to do so as an employee of St. Norbert College.




  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.




  • Capable of professional interactions with coworkers and customers, especially during conflicts.




  • Skilled in polite communication and resolving customer service issues.




  • Proficient at multitasking, meeting deadlines, and prioritizing tasks.




  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.




  • Competent in basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).




  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office, and Google Apps, and quick to learn new software.




  • Able to make sound, timely decisions and exercise good judgment.




  • A strong role model, setting a positive example for others.




  • Experienced in organizing and managing events, programs, and projects to completion.




  • Able to maintain focus and concentration in a noisy environment.
