Job Description:

The UI Stead Family Department of Pediatrics is seeking an APP to join our division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at 100% time. The APP will provide direct patient care, including diagnostic and therapeutic services, to children and adolescents through a general pediatrics outpatient setting. In accordance with scope of practice as outlined by applicable state law, regulations, institutional policies and practice agreements, the position will independently conduct comprehensive medical, psychosocial, and developmental health history, physical assessments, establish diagnoses, and develop treatment plans as needed. This position will be required to work Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position may be eligible for a transition and relocation allowance.

Duties to include:

  • Obtains and documents a comprehensive medical, psychosocial, and developmental health history; performs and documents complete, system-focused, or symptom-specific physical examination, assessment, and plan of care.
  • Plan, deliver, and evaluate health care for patients in general pediatric outpatient clinics.
  • Arranges appropriate follow-up and consultation as needed in the outpatient setting.
  • Initiate and coordinate referrals to other health care team members or agencies.
  • Orders, performs, interprets, and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant supporting diagnostic information and diagnostic procedures where indicated.
  • Interprets results of tests and procedures to families and provides instructions and follow-up.
  • Utilizes evidence-based, approved practice protocols in planning and implementing care.
  • Provide education and serve as a resource for nursing staff, external agencies, community, and other health professionals.
  • Participates in departmental educational conferences and clinical care meetings.
  • Accurately and appropriately complete documentation of patient care in the electronic medical record (EMR) and other records for compliance, billing, and other regulatory standards.
  • Acquire and maintain clinical competency and expertise in general pediatrics.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as requested/assigned.

The Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine has a long history of providing innovative care for Iowa's children. The Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine has a certified child car seat safety inspector and promotes education, communication, and training for children and families.



Education requirement:

  • A Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing is required.

Experience Requirement:

  • Current certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Primary Care (PNP-PC).
  • Current ARNP license to practice nursing in the State of Iowa is required.
  • Federal DEA License
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Demonstrated experience in the clinical care of pediatrics.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with indirect supervision, have critical thinking/problem solving skills, and has attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Highly Desired Qualification:

  • Knowledge and experience in ambulatory care.
