Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and three years of professional experience in journalism, marketing, public relations, or a related field. Demonstrated ability to write and edit meaningful stories to diverse audiences is required. The position will require knowledge of AP style and a collaborative, creative, and analytical approach to tasks. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience managing production of a publication is preferred.

Essential Functions
Works collaboratively and independently to produce content that is engaging and accurate.
Fosters a greater connection and improves user experience among diverse target audiences.
Aligns with brand guidelines on style, quality, and voice.
Reports to the Senior Director, Strategic and Executive Communications and the Vice President for Marketing and Communications.
Tells authentic and compelling stories that strengthen the University and advances its mission.
Works with colleagues within the Office of Marketing and Communications, and across the University, on writing, editing, and distributing content that supports strategic objectives, with an emphasis on content for USA News, South Magazine, South Today, marketing collateral and special initiatives.
Assists and advises in the development, creation and publication of University-wide print and digital publications, including collaborating with stakeholders in the production of South Magazine, the University’s flagship publication.
Sits on the South Magazine editorial board, writes news articles, feature stories and profiles for the magazine.
Works with external vendors including photographers.
Writes news and feature stories for and helps manage the USA News portal on the website.
Contributes writing and editing for the South Today digital newsletter.
Assists in producing the University’s annual report and other special publications and brochures.
Writes content for video scripts, news releases, speeches, advertising and marketing collateral.
Regular and prompt attendance.
Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required.
Related duties as required.
