Essential Functions

These are the job duties required of the position.

Essential Functions
  • Provides academic advising to USA transfer students and prospective transfer students.
  • Engages in academic curriculum planning for students across partner community colleges to maximize transferability of courses.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with partner community colleges, engages in appreciative advising with both prospective and USA transfer students, teaches AA/AS curriculum and corresponding major curriculum to prospective and USA transfer students.
  • Maintains knowledge of transfer articulation agreements and transfer requirements and regulations, and collaborates with other University departments involved with transfer students and transfer student concerns.
  • Visits regularly and meets with professionals (deans, academic advisors, academic counselors) at community college partners.
  • Regularly meets with incoming transfer students, providing them with general orientation information, providing initial advisement and registration for major undeclared transfer students as appropriate.
  • Helps the university provide a coordinated approach to transfer student issues by working cooperatively with other campus units, publishing materials of interest to transfer students, communicating with college deans and departments regarding the transferability of courses, communicating with the University units on transfer of general education courses, and working as a member of the Academic Advising & Transfer Services’ office.
  • Serves as an information resource to students, faculty and staff.
  • Maintains the transfer advising website, and provides appropriate training and information for academic advisors across campus and at sending institutions.
  • Monitors student progress.
  • Maintains records of student advising sessions.
  • Acts as an advocate for students.
  • Assists transfer students in identifying their interests, abilities, and academic goals and in making decisions regarding their academic career, as well adjustment to USA.
  • Introduces transfer students to opportunities that will enrich their academic experience, facilitate their academic and personal development, and support their educational success.
  • Teaches transfer students technology used at USA as it relates to academic progression.
  • Makes appropriate referrals.
  • Identifies and reports to director circumstances that may adversely impact transfer students’ academic progress at USA.
  • Participates in recruitment and retention programming, programs, and initiatives.
  • Participates in and provides feedback on training and professional development activities.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work scheduled as defined and additional hours as required.
  • Related duties as required.
