Job Summary:
The Regional Physician Lead ("RPL") is a WellStar Medical Group physician that serves as the physician leader of the practices within an assigned region and specialty to include Medical Group practices. The RPL will serve as the liaison between the Medical Group and the practices for all matters regarding the delivery of medical services, program management, and medical operations. The RPL will serve as the principal physician leader of the assigned region. In addition to maintaining an active clinical footprint, the RPL will support the mission, vision, goals and values of the WellStar Health System, primarily through collaboration with executive leadership in shaping and managing the implementation of the WellStar strategy, while focusing on clinical excellence through the provision of quality, consistent, patient-centered care across the WellStar Health System as it relates to the practice of medicine The individual in this role is expected to communicate with all levels of staff that include providers, employees, and executives. The RPL must have operational knowledge and leadership skills that promote a culture of engagement throughout the workforce at their facility and WellStar.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Clinical Assessment * Physician shall provide quality care to all patients under his/her service in a safe and efficient manner and shall at all times report to the Senior Vice President and/or Vice President of WMG * Physician shall provide appropriate medical services and coordination of care to all patients presented to him/her through WellStar medical facilities and its medical staff members. * Physician, along with the other providers, shall collaborate to develop and shall utilize Evidence Based Medicine (EBM) protocols for targeted diagnosis. * Physician agrees to cooperate with, participate in, and comply with, the quality assurance, risk management and peer review programs, grievance procedures and utilization control mechanisms implemented by the Medical Group and its Affiliates. Marketing * Assist in the development and implementation of marketing and public relation plans and for marketing medical services to primary and secondary markets. * Represent WellStar at requested community functions, presentations, and meetings/forums. Quality Improvement * Assist with development and maintenance of continuous quality improvement programs, ensuring continuous * monitoring and assurance of compliance of physician quality care/safety programs. * Promote and monitor ambulatory provider attendance at WMG provider and Medical Staff meetings. * Ensure the center achieves and maintains Joint Commission, managed care and other accreditations. * Assist in development, coordination, and completion of educational programs for providers, staff, patients, and community. * Oversee compliance with managed care requirements, including timely and appropriate medication formulary utilization and specialist referrals. Operational Management * Hold regular documented meetings (at least monthly) with practice providers (physicians and advanced practice professionals) to discuss systems/patient flow quality, improvement in scheduling, and patient and physician relationships. * Participate and regularly meet at least monthly with WMG senior leadership to review progress of medical practices. * Assist in the professional development and growth of each individual medical provider. * Assist in development, regularly review, and annually sign off on, as approved and updated, the latest Joint Commission standard policies, procedures, and medical protocols regarding patient care. * In conjunction with the WMG and WellStar Health System leadership, provide guidance regarding policies, personnel, services, marketing, quality improvement, and education. * Regularly assess medical staff perceptions and needs of the medical facilities to ensure a harmonious working relationship, and provide leadership to practitioners resulting in overall Facility improvement by * Encouraging teamwork and participation * Assisting in any necessary face-to-face or phone interviews, recruitment, placement, counseling, and/or termination of physicians * Orienting new providers and monitoring their ongoing compliance with policies and procedures * Coordinating provider scheduling to ensure efficiency and maximum productivity * Being responsible for receiving and assisting with the investigating of all complaints, grievances or questions of policy concerning any provider or the medical facilities * Providing medical leadership and overall supervision to all providers * Interceding in and providing counseling, retraining, direction, and discipline to physicians regarding quality and productivity issues * Regularly attend local practice meetings. * Work closely with physician leaders as well as operational leaders to achieve the organizational goals. * Assist in an efficient and expeditious operation of medical practices, providing input on budgets, billing and equipment. * Interact closely with Facility administration to develop goals and provide ongoing assessment to achieve objectives, in keeping with WellStar strategic plan(s). * Work cooperatively and supportively with medical practice administration and physicians to ensure services are available and cost effective, meeting quality and regulatory guidelines. * Review and monitor the following reports as they relate to the organizational/facility specific goals: monthly quality metrics; billings; charges; scheduling; productivity; and other reports as reasonably requested. * Interact with the medical staff, specialists, and community physicians to ensure appropriate and timely patient care, patient transfers, and patient referrals. * Work cooperatively and supportively with the heads departments to ensure availability and * effective of services and results reporting. Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Required Minimum Education:
MD or DO degree from an accredited school of medicine. Required
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.


  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support or Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor or ACLS - Instructor or ACLS - Provisional



Additional License(s) and Certification(s):
Board certified in the area of specialty Upon Hire Required and Licensed to practice medicine in the state of Georgia. Upon Hire Required and Qualify for and maintain membership per medical staff guidelines. Upon Hire Required
Required Minimum Experience:
Minimum 5 years of years practicing as a physician in a healthcare setting. Required
Required Minimum Skills:
Demonstrated leadership skills and knowledge. Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work collaboratively in multi-specialty medical groups. Excellent physician relations skills and previous experience in growing volume and managing quality improvement. Skills including strategy development, program evaluation, budget preparation, and execution of programs and services to achieve quality standards. Excellent understanding of clinical and technology trends related to the delivery of healthcare services. Excellent communication skills verbal, written, listening, and presentation along with the confidence to favorably represent the organization in both formal and informal settings.
