We are seeking a full-time Associate Technical Writer in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting in planning, developing, and delivering customer instructional deliverables.
Essential Functions
Learns to author accurate, clear, concise, timely content in a topic-based content management system using DITA-based XML authoring tools and InDesign
Works with the localization team to plan and complete localized deliverables and demonstrates an understanding of authoring issues as they relate to localization
Collaborates with team members to identify opportunities to reuse existing content to improve efficiency/decrease costs and collaborates with product development teams to validate content
Works with graphics professionals to develop illustrations that aid in customer understanding
Identifies and troubleshoots basic issues using proper tools, communications, and processes
Demonstrates a sense of urgency, commitment, and focus on the right priorities
Assists in creating, documenting, tracking, and evaluating project requirements, scope, schedules, costs, risks, priorities, assumptions, dependencies, ROI, and plans for his/her own tasks/projects
Proactively seeks, applies, shares, and retains detailed information needed to succeed, applies critical thinking skills, offers suggestions for improving processes/guidelines, and maintains reliable/predictable attendance
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Technical Writing, Journalism, English or related field OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) with the ability to effectively apply learned knowledge
Proficiency using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
Demonstrates an aptitude to learn and effectively apply appropriate requirements, standards, processes, procedures, tools, and technologies
Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to effectively apply superior organizational, time-management, and follow-up skills
Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude, and collaborate effectively with others to achieve goals in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Demonstrates the ability to effectively manage tasks and priorities for overlapping projects and meet deadlines in a consistent, complete, accurate, and timely manner
Must be detail-oriented and demonstrate the ability to maintain accuracy and a high level of quality in a fast-paced environment
Desired Qualifications
Hands-on experience with Garmin or GPS products
Experience using DITA-based XML, structured authoring, and related tools
Experience using a content management system (CMS)
Experience with desktop publishing tools, specifically InDesign and other Adobe-based products
