PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Under general supervision, diagnoses, maintains repairs and services a wide variety of diesel, gasoline and natural gas-powered equipment and vehicles; operates a variety of hand, power and shop tools; and performs related duties as assigned. This position is primarily scheduled as a second shift position. This position will report directly to the Preventive Maintenance Coordinator.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:


  • Always maintain safe work practices per company and federal policies.

  • Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services .

  • Ability to workday or night shift as needed to perform preventive maintenance practices necessary to increase service life of equipment.

  • Heavy equipment parts familiarization including parts catalogs, filters, and oils.

  • Maintain a courteous and professional manner with co-workers, customers, and public.

  • Initiative to perform/assist with other positions for job completion;

  • Be able to be trained to operate various makes and models of equipment.

  • Perform equipment inspections after completing each job.

  • Perform record keeping of time and parts used on the appropriate forms.

  • Assist other maintenance department staff in performing the duties necessary to assure the efficiency of operations of vehicles and equipment.

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instruction.

  • Ability to understand and carry out detailed written or oral instructions;


  • Be able to perform DOT inspections on over the trucks and trailers.

  • Maintain work area appearance and safety.

  • Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.

  • Valid driver's license

  • Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.

  • Other projects and tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate, G.E.D., or equivalent studies/experience (preferred);

  • Vocational / Technical School or certification preferred, but not necessary.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Great attention to detail and stress tolerance.

  • Must be willing to work weekends and extended hours.

  • 2 or more years' experience in diesel truck and heavy equipment preferred but not required

  • Must own tools.

  • Proficiency in the use of shop tools required and ownership of mechanic set;

  • Current CDL license with air brake certification preferred but not required.
