SUMMARY : Currently searching for 1-2 Part-Time Substitute ESL (English as Second Language) Program Instructors to work at the Cal Poly English Language Institute of College of Professional and Global Education, under the supervision of Dr. Lisa Xue, Director of Global Education Institute.
ABOUT US : As the largest employer of students on the Cal Poly Pomona campus, the Enterprises offers valuable work experience and hands-on training to approximately 1,500 Cal Poly Pomona students each year. The Enterprises offers positions in various fields; whether it is in the area of technology, science, retail, culinary arts, hospitality1500 management, leadership or research grants, these student employees participate in Cal Poly Pomona's learn-by-doing philosophy and acquire practical skills in their designated field of study.
The Enterprises also contributes operating support to nearly 1,100 Enterprises and scholarship programs every year, including Bronco Athletics and the Pepsi Scholarship. In addition, the Enterprises administers grants and contracts, contributes to campus security, and supports several university publications. The Enterprises contributes over $1 million annually to Cal Poly Pomona.
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO:
The part-time substitute instructor will instruct students attending ESL programs offered at the College of Professional and Global Education on a needed basis. Job duties include:
Substitute for regular instructors when needed, delivering engaging and interactive lessons.
Utilize a variety of teaching techniques and strategies, such as interactive activities, games, role-plays, and multimedia resources, to create a dynamic and inclusive classroom environment that promotes language acquisition and cultural understanding.
Provide support and guidance to students in developing their English language skills in the areas of reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation, while fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes mutual respect and intercultural communication.
Follow CPELI's policies and procedures for attendance, student conduct, and grading
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Master's degree in TESOL, English, Education, or a related field.
Previous experience teaching ESL classes to international students, preferably in an intensive English program setting.
Knowledge of best practices in ESL instruction, including communicative language teaching methodologies, learner-centered approaches, and proficiency-based assessments.
Strong organizational and administrative skills, including record keeping and report writing.
PREFERRED
Extensive experience working with students from linguistic backgrounds such as Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, or Korean speakers.
Experience in developing and implementing specialized ESL programs or courses, such as business English, aviation hospitality English, academic English, or test preparation (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, ACT, etc.).
Knowledge of relevant educational policies, regulations, and accreditation standards related to ESL programs, such as CEA (Commission on English Language Program Accreditation) or ACCET (Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training).
