Job Description:

Position Summary:

Provides psychological services to assist a multiculturally rich and diverse student body in attaining their educational, interpersonal, and academic goals. Psychological services include individual assessment and counseling; clinical crisis services; group counseling; psycho-educational outreach programming and consultation to students, staff, faculty, administrators, and parents/families; supervision and training to graduate students in the mental health professions; and commitment to working to provide a welcoming and respectful environment for all. Administers and coordinates all facets of the clinical services system for University Counseling Service (UCS); develops policy and procedures for implementation, facilitates internal evaluation of services, student metrics and outcomes, and management of internal and external requests for clinical services; and participates in the ongoing team management of all facets of operations. Oversees group therapy service systems. Serves as an Associate Director and provides administrative supervision for some UCS staff.


Specific Job Duties & Tasks:

  • Take developmental history, make assessment and diagnosis, develop treatment plan, provide therapeutic intervention, and participate in outcome evaluation for all clinical services
  • Provide consultant on duty services to students as scheduled.
  • Provide various length and topically relevant training seminar(s).
  • Apply advanced knowledge and expertise across disciplines to supervise and train staff and trainees in areas of clinical relevance.
  • Provide formal consultation work to units or academic departments as requested or directed.
  • Provide consultation and assistance to units, academic departments, and individuals regarding clinical service systems, emergency services, and preventive services.
  • Oversee compliance with ethical standards, rules, and regulations by assuring that all clinical services comply with APA Ethical Standards, state practice laws and standards of practice, and applicable federal and state privacy laws.
  • Lead Quality Assurance Activities by assisting with the development of evaluation procedures of clinical services.
  • Provides direct administrative supervision to assigned staff therapists (including social workers and psychologists).
  • Engages in semi- and annual performance evaluation with assigned administrative supervisees.

UCS has an inter-disciplinary multicultural staff of psychologists, social workers, mental health counselors, graduate interns, practicum students, and administrative professionals. Required Education and Licensure Requirements:


Doctoral degree in either Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an APA-Accredited program

OR

Master's degree in Social Work with clinical focus from a CSWE-Accredited program or Master's degree in Counseling from a CACREP- Accredited Program.

Psychologist: Possession of a valid State of Iowa license as a psychologist within 18 months of hire. License must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.

Social Worker: Licensed as an LISW in the State of Iowa by date of hire.

Clinical Mental Health Counselor: Licensed as a LMHC in the State of Iowa by date of hire.


Required Qualifications:
  • Psychologist: Relevant post-degree experience (typically 3-5 years).
  • Social Worker: Relevant post-degree experience (typically 3-5 years).
  • Clinical Mental Health Counselor: Relevant post-degree experience (typically 3-5 years).
  • Extensive knowledge of evidence-based clinical services and procedures in individual, couples, and group settings; ability to assess, manage, and ensure high quality clinical service provision.
  • Knowledge of assessment and research methods and activities including assessment of student learning outcomes/satisfaction metrics and development and implementation of systems to improve service delivery.
  • Extensive knowledge of and ability to manage a complex and fluid service system.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience planning, developing and delivering educational and outreach programming, and consulting services with constituencies.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience providing administrative supervision and personnel management.
  • Extensive knowledge of training and development processes, tools and techniques to develop clinical skills of students, trainees, and staff.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience preparing data reports and engaging in data driven decision making.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with crisis management and hospitalization.
  • Expert knowledge and experience with legal and ethical decision making.
  • Expert knowledge and application of the communication techniques and relationship building skills that develop the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
  • Demonstrated extensive proficiency in the ability to collaborate and interact with individuals and groups while appreciating the unique contribution of individuals from varied backgrounds.
  • Knowledge and experience in working with multicultural populations.
  • Proficiency in office support tools available and electronic medical records software (e.g., word processing, e-mail, presentation software, and spreadsheets); preferably Microsoft Office and Titanium.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Previous campus Counseling Center experience.
  • Working proficiency with students who are Mandarin speaking; Asian Indian, Black/African-American; Latino/Latina/Latinx, and/or GLBTQ+.
  • Working proficiency with infusing technology into the delivery of mental health services.
  • Interest and/or experience in counseling center research.
  • Working proficiency and interest in psychological assessment: administration, interpretation, and reporting.
  • Working proficiency and interest in providing brief psychoeducational group interventions.
