Senior Engineering Project Team Leader - Genset Testing
Location: Lafayette, IN or Mossville, IL

The Large Power Systems Division currently has an opening for a Senior Engineering Project Team Leader on the new product genset test team . This role will be the subject matter expert for genset operation and testing as well as power generator and genset control. You will mentor and coach global team members and process partners while continually learning, staying up to date on innovative technologies, and deepening your professional network. This position will also be responsible for managing special projects to resolve problems and remove roadblocks from the test team. You will provide strategic and technical leadership to deliver solutions that expand the test team capabilities and enhance the team's output and efficiency. This role will also have responsibility for providing quality test data and experience to validate new generator set designs driven by NPI, CPI, Cost Reduction and Assurance of Supply projects. Keys to success in this role are the ability to manage project plans, effectively communicate with process partners, and escalate issues as needed.
What you will do:
Provide technical guidance to test execution team, design validation team, and product groups on genset product, installation, operation, testing, capability to meet requirements, power generator, genset control, and electrical safety
Understand and ensure conformity to customer technical requirements, industry code, and test regulations including but not limited to: ISO, UL, CE, EMI/EMC. Develop new PMT standardized documents for new genset test regulations
Monitor & keep to up to date with industry safety standards for genset operation & provide recommendations to test operations
Support all witness and certification testing including documentation and completion of certification
Maintain and develop all genset test knowledge and procedures including annual reviews as well as guidelines for genset test planning, execution, and post test data reporting
Document all relevant notes related to testing and submit potential failures and all related details for NPI resolution and provide guidance and expertise on package failure and parts analysis
Manage genset test assets (test equipment, instrumentation, engineering test material, load banks/transformers/other special needs) including tracking, calibration/licenses, maintenance, overhauls, capital projects to purchase new equipment
Provide subject matter expertise to project teams tasked with implementing cell upgrades - manage and maintain required FSRs for assigned projects
Lead LPSD requirements development for global package test facilities
Lead grid code testing at external suppliers
Monitor set up and execution of all installations and tests to ensure all test activities meet Caterpillar safety and quality standards
Manage multiple units and tests while providing tasks, priority, and guidance to execution team and test facility team and communicating results to team members and product teams
Monthly review of test facility invoices to create and ensure approval of purchase requisitions
Education:
Bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering program OR relevant work experience
Top Candidates will also have:
Experience with genset product configuration
Relevant work experience with generator set design and application
Exposure to genset testing and test cell operation
Electrical/Electronic and/or Mechanical aptitude
Exposure to Caterpillar NPI process and quality including warranty, DPU, CPI
Exposure to project planning/management
Six Sigma Black Belt experience
Prior exposure to power electronics, or utility grid operations
