Job Description:

Position Summary

Design, integrate, and improve both low- and high-volume manufacturing processes for all manufacturing operations on aluminum die castings. All manufacturing operations include, but are not limited to, die casting, trimming, CNC machining, dedicated/custom machining, assembly, finishing, and verification operations with and without the use of automation. There is an emphasis on machining operations. Required to work closely with engineering team.

Set-up and troubleshoot CNC and dedicated machining/assembly equipment as needed for product development and to keep plant running efficiently. Must include the knowledge of programming and editing CNC equipment. Must include the knowledge of programming and editing robots and vision systems. Must include general understanding of PLC function, electrical, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic systems. Must have the ability to analyze and act upon CMM and other inspection data. May include work with multiple machines such as material moving, fabricating, cutting, etc. Occasional travel to other facilities may be required.

Responsibilities/Duties/Tasks


  • Reviews customer print specifications and models for manufacturability (Design for Manufacturability review).  When necessary, make improvement suggestions to customers.

  • Understands complex geometry and GD&T requirements and interpret CMM reports (and other measurement results) to monitor manufacturing processes.

  • Leads the development, creation and implementation of automation projects.

  • Problem solving methodologies to eliminate design and manufacturing problems.

  • Conducts cycle time evaluations for manufacturing operations.

  • Leads tooling reviews with suppliers to ensure tooling conforms to TCDC requirements.

  • Leads and performs PFMEA risk analyses.

  • Identifies and implements error-proofing opportunities within manufacturing operations.

  • Utilizes CAD/CAM systems.

  • Correctly and efficiently perform setup and teardown of equipment in the work cell, utilizing approved process as well as aid in process development and improvement.

  • Working knowledge of all equipment in the work cell and ability to diagnose a problem and react accordingly.

  • Process Controls (participate in DOEs, cap studies, and process development. The intent is to understand the tools available to facilitate process development.)

  • Interprets SPC trend and study data from monitored processes.

  • Identifies and corrects problems and trouble-shoot difficult jobs.

  • Understands and act upon company goals/metrics.

  • Responsible for contributing to the achievement of company goals.

  • Travel and customer interaction may be required.

  • Responsible for knowing and following all environmental, health and safety rules, policies, and procedures for work area and takes responsibility to assure that personal work activity is conducted in such a way to not affect the safety of themselves or others.

Education and Experience

Required:


  • Associates or technical degree in Machining, CAD/CAM, Automation. An equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered.

  • CNC Machining experience required.

  • 3D CAD/CAM skills required.

  • Robot programming required.

  • Vision programming required.

  • Experience with automated systems required.

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks is crucial.

  • Can conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines.
