General Summary



Responsible for working closely with UMMC, UMSOM, and FPI leaders to provide expertise and direction, using communications platforms to support the development of strategic communications and engagement plans to modernize communications within the Chief Clinical Office. Partner with other communications staff, including internal communications, media, and marketing, to develop and execute communications strategies and deliverables in support of organizational strategic goals. Create, edit and acquire content from communications services staff, site executives and business leaders as needed. Helps achieve organizational goals related to physician engagement and communicating to UMMC team members in support of optimal compliance, engagement, quality/safety, operations, and patient experience. Provides consultation and guidance to various clients, and plans, drives, implements, monitors and measures results, and is a key contributor or lead to medical center wide communications. Driver of internal brand messaging and seeks avenues to promote the concepts of "Systemness" and "High Reliability" among department colleagues and interdisciplinary functions.



Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Execute strategic vision by creating narratives and key messages for Chief Clinical Office-related internal communication campaigns, including coordination of design, production, and distribution to a wider audience. Partner with leadership to schedule, plan and execute leadership forums, board meetings, department meetings and retreats, and other meetings for the staff within the Chief Clinical Office. Partner with corporate and communication leaders to develop strategy and communicate projects. Support communications needs related to ongoing activities and projects.

  • Work closely with UMMC leaders and senior management to develop and execute key internal communications projects in support of strategic organizational goals. Responsibilities include drafting CCO leader messaging and highlights for department leaders and senior management, developing a communications plan for executive review and managing through completion. Manage content development and publishing for multimodal communications platforms and products including email correspondence, videos, newsletters, annual reports, intranet, and others as assigned.

  • Manage on-site CCO-related internal communications at both UMMC campuses, including support of the Downtown and Midtown Campus Insiders, working with leadership to help plan strategy and execute plans to meet or exceed affiliate goals, updating content on the intranet content management systems (CMS) and adhering to production deadlines.

  • Perform editorial review and content maintenance for UMMC Insiders CCO-related pages, including uploading edited or new material, making the necessary changes as needed. Editorial responsibilities include working with hospital leaders and site owners to make sure content is timely and meets functional and graphic standards.

  • Maintain standards and currency of content in collaboration with department intranet content managers; assist with maintaining internal site search engine to make it as easy as possible to find information; and sharing appropriate content with intranet managers at other sites.

  • Partners with colleagues across communications functions on design, content consistency, content updates and refreshes, timely posting and distribution, etc; coordinate production of video messaging and identify opportunities to utilize new delivery platforms and technologies.

  • Works closely with all departments to develop productive working relationships and effective communications strategies that emphasize UMMC CCO-related corporate message and campaigns; communicate project updates and plans with key stakeholders both internally and externally; manages multiple projects simultaneously and meets assigned deadlines.

  • Develop and maintain effective cross-functional relationships with Shared Services colleagues. Liaise with Media and Marketing team as required and identify stories/milestones for enhanced internal visibility to drive employee pride and engagement.

  • Provides assistance, as requested to UMMC's Hospital Incident Command Structure

  • Maximize communication and efficient management of projects such as new finance programs, employee engagement outreach and employee wellness initiatives.

  • Considers social media opportunities for the CCO office and develops appropriate content that engages personnel and other professionals, describing the opportunities and care advancements within the office and UMMC.

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience


  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing, Business Administration, or related field is required.

  • At least 5 years of hospital, corporate and/or agency communications experience is required.

  • Experience with at least one web content management system required



  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.

  • Able to manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently; exceptional organizational skills.

  • PC skill in word processing is required, with proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Office required.

  • Understanding and working knowledge of the internet and HTML required. Experience working with one or more web content management systems (CMS) such as Sitecore preferred.

  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.

  • Professional demeanor and comfort engaging staff across all levels of the organization, including senior executives
