Department Summary
We are the Auxiliary Maintenance Team within the Maintenance division of UNT Facilities. Our team performs the routine and preventative maintenance vital to the resident and dining experience within our resident halls, dining facilities, and many of our Sorority chapter locations. We work in close coordination and cooperation with our Housing and Auxiliary Services Department partners to make residence life our number one priority. Auxiliary Maintenance is a culmination of several trades including structural, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and access control. We currently maintain facilities across 15 resident halls, 6 dining facilities, and 7 Sorority Houses plus the Center for Sorority-Fraternity Life and the UNT Welcome Center. Our goal is to provide the most reliable, efficient, and outstanding service to our residents, who rely on our maintaining their living and dining spaces so they can focus on their education. We take great pride in what we do and strive for service excellence daily.
Position Overview
* This position is responsible for intermediate skilled craftwork that involves specialized maintenance work.
* Duties include installing, maintaining, repairing, and servicing building systems covering multiple crafts.
* This position will liaise with building representatives to ensure maintenance requests are handled in a timely manner and to gain any clarification to scope of work needed.
* Inspects and investigates leaks to determine appropriate actions to resolve and repair; maintains, installs, and replaces various plumbing pipes, fittings, fixtures, valves, and other related appliances within campus facilities and infrastructure according to the international plumbing code.
* Repairs and maintains plumbing by replacing washers in leaky faucets, mending burst pipes and opening clogged drains.
* Repairs and maintains internal plumbing systems and external drains
* Cleans plumbing systems utilizing appropriate equipment.
* Reports needed equipment and supplies to maintain proper amounts of inventory to perform jobs in a timely manner.
* Performs a variety of semiskilled and technical tasks in routine maintenance duties.
* Supports faculty and staff members by making needed repairs to offices, building and installing shelves, hanging pictures, moving furniture, etc.
* Makes periodic inspections and does incidental repairs.
* Check the functioning of doors.
* Repairs furniture and chairs.
* Studies building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations.
* Ensures all equipment is working properly.
* Maintains carpet, ceiling tiles, doors and door stops, locks, lights and ballasts, tile, and restrooms for needed repairs.
* Cleans shops, performs inventory of tools and materials in and around the shop, and maintains tools and equipment.
* Reports needed equipment and supplies to maintain proper amounts of inventory to perform jobs in a timely manner.
* Erects various types of scaffolding, staging, ladders, and planks to reach work area surfaces.
* Other duties assigned.
** This position is considered to be essential personnel, and may require working overtime, which could include nights and weekends as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
One year of experience in maintenance/repair or related field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Knowledge of and skill in the use of standard tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices of general maintenance tasks.
* Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of general maintenance.
* Knowledge of blueprints, schematics, and working drawings.
* Ability to use basic shop math applications.
* Ability to locate and identify problems in appropriate building systems or equipment and to plan and execute necessary repairs.
* Physical ability to perform moderately heavy physical work which includes lifting and crawling, and to remain outdoors in inclement weather.
* Knowledge of appropriate safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.
Preferred Qualifications
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Possession of a valid Texas driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment; ability to drive a vehicle and maintain coverage under University liability insurance policy, if required to drive University vehicles.
