POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Strategic Leadership


  • Develop and implement data strategies aligned with company objectives, you will be a thought leader on how to design, implement, manage, and scale our data platform leveraging modern data architecture and technologies.

  • Build relationships throughout the company and industry that will assist with understanding business needs and goals.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure data architecture supports organizational growth and innovation.

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends and evaluate their potential applicability to improve our data platform.

  • Ability to think outside of the box and provide innovative solutions to simplify data analytics ecosystem.

  • Develop and oversee standards for data governance and data quality initiatives.

  • Establish and lead a data governance program to ensure data accuracy, integrity, and security across the organization.

  • Provide regular updates to senior management on data initiatives, performance metrics, and strategic recommendations.

  • Lead development of plans, roadmaps, schedules, and budgets for build out and maturation of the data platform.

Data Engineering


  • Actively analyze and organize raw data, preparing it for descriptive modeling

  • Integrate raw data from various sources and identify ways to enhance data quality and reliability

  • Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines, and build new API integrations to support growing data volume and complexity

  • Translate business needs into data models that support long-term solutions

  • Create logical and physical data models using best practices to ensure high data quality and minimize redundancy

  • Establish best practices for standard naming conventions and coding practices to ensure consistency across data models

Data Management and Architecture


  • Design, install, test, and maintain robust data management systems

  • Directly operate a data warehouse environment, including data design, database architecture, and a metadata repository

  • Define and create detailed documentation for data architecture standards

  • Collaborate with all business units and other groups in Business Technology to develop a comprehensive long-term data architecture strategy

  • Support the data visualization engineers with formatted data, ensuring quality assurance and control of data models

  • Work closely with our integrations team to understand and improve the current data architecture, data pipelines, and data security

Data Governance


  • Establish and lead a comprehensive data governance program

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and security

  • Oversee data quality initiatives to maintain high standards for data integrity

Data Management Team Building


  • Define and develop roles essential for supporting the data management program, and recruit top talent to fill these positions

  • Coach, train, and mentor developers and engineers on the data team, fostering their professional growth

  • Manage and oversee consultants and contractors supporting the data management program, ensuring their work aligns with organizational goals

KPI Development and Analysis


  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of data initiatives

  • Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership

Contract Management and Vendor Relationships


  • Oversee contract renewals and ensure favorable terms and condition

  • Manage relationships with vendors, ensuring effective communication and collaboration

  • Evaluate vendor performance and hold them accountable to service level agreements (SLAs)

Complete other responsibilities as assigned

MINIMUM SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE


  • A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, data management, information systems, or a related quantitative field (or equivalent work experience)

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in data management disciplines, including data integration and data modeling

  • At least 8 years of experience with cloud data warehouses (e.g., AWS Redshift, DBX SQL) and a strong aptitude for learning new tools

  • Proven experience in establishing a modern data infrastructure that supports predictive analytics, machine learning (ML), and artificial intelligence (AI)

  • Deep expertise in modern data architecture practices, patterns, and standards

  • Demonstrated expertise in setting up data governance programs and data quality initiatives

  • Strong proficiency in SQL or Python, with a background in building data models

  • Experience processing and integrating large volumes of structured and unstructured data from multiple sources

  • Proven expertise in data cleaning and wrangling, utilizing the most efficient tools and applications for these tasks

  • Demonstrated ability to design, build, and manage data pipelines, encompassing data transformation, data models, schemas, metadata, and workload management

  • Extensive knowledge of BI tools, including Microsoft PowerBI and Tableau

  • Excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills

  • Strong communication skills with senior leadership

  • Proven experience in leading a team

  • Construction experience preferred but not required

Preferred Certifications


  • ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library)

  • Six Sigma

  • PMP (Project Management Professional)

  • CSM (Certified Scrum Master)

  • TOGAF 9 (The Open Group Architecture Framework)
