Summary/Objective:
J.W. Bamford, Inc. is currently seeking full-time Logging and Road Construction Equipment Operators to perform work in the Redding, CA (Forest) surrounding areas. The work schedule is Monday-Friday and occasional Saturdays, 8 to 10-hour days. Work is located in remote areas and only on-site camping is usually available unless employees reside locally or provide their own housing. Willing to train the right person if you have a solid work history and experience with equipment. Must be willing to interview in person and commute to work or relocate prior to starting.
Must be a quick learner, fast paced, extremely reliable, and looking for long-term employment. The ideal candidate will have substantial mechanical intelligence and experience in trouble shooting heavy equipment issues including maintenance and repairs.

Essential functions:

Operate heavy equipment to remove timber or perform construction or road reconstruction/maintenance on logging roads.
Have good judgement regarding site, terrain, and weather conditions for safe equipment operation.
Other tasks may include assisting with other operations at the job site such as maintenance equipment.
Must possess mechanical intelligence and experience trouble shooting experience heavy equipment including maintenance and repairs.
Perform multiple inspections throughout the day of equipment to check and maintain proper fluid levels, performance of the equipment, etc.
Reports equipment needs and hazards to supervisor.
Continuously conducts safety checks on the equipment (seat belt, fire extinguisher, lights, etc.) to ensure equipment is working properly and safely.
Survey, evaluate and take measures to ensure the work area is safe from any dangers.
Inspect all attachments to the machinery to ensure that they are operational and take the appropriate steps to correct.
Follow work order instructions from supervisor.
Ensures that the job site is left in safe condition.
Maintains good housekeeping on equipment.
Operates a chainsaw when needed.
Ability to travel and work overtime when required.
Must have a strong work ethic.
Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

All work is performed outside in all types of various weather (i.e., heat, cold, wind, sun, and inclement weather, etc.)
Exposure to all types of terrain.
Exposure to all elements of nature on a regular basis.
Exposure to loud noise.
Exposure to fumes, odors, gases, dust, etc.
Exposure to moving mechanical parts and moving equipment.


Physical Demands:

Must have good visual and auditory physical capabilities in order to manage sight and sounds in a hazardous construction environment.
Specific vision abilities required by this position include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Coordination between hands, eyes, and feet to guide equipment and objects is required.
Must be able to push, pull, climb, sit, and stretch regularly while performing the essential functions of the job.
Must be able to remain alert and cognitive of multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including awareness of other employees, subcontractors, machinery, equipment, and moving traffic when applicable.
Must be able to work around loud noises.
Must be able to mount and dismount safely off vehicles and equipment.
Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
Must be able to work overtime as requested.
Must be able to walk on uneven terrain.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.


Travel Required:

Position travels outside the local area but usually within Northern California.


Required Education and Experience:

Equipment Operation: 2 years


Preferred Education and Experience:

A job for which military experienced candidates are encouraged to apply.
High School education or equivalent.
Forestry: 2-3 years
Heavy Equipment Operation: 2-5 years
Mechanical Knowledge: 2 years


Additional Eligibility Requirements:

Must have a valid driver's license.
Must provide a clean driving record: 5 years (Required).
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.


License/Certification:

Class A Commercial Driver's License (Preferred).
Any Heavy Equipment Operating Certifications (Preferred).


Other Duties:

Operators and Drivers are responsible for the proper maintenance and care of equipment and vehicles, ensuring it remains in optimal condition for efficient operation. They are expected to conduct routine inspections, perform preventive maintenance tasks, and promptly report any issues to management. Additionally, operators must operate machinery and drive various heavy commercial vehicles with caution and expertise to minimize the risk of damage and ensure longevity of equipment and vehicles.
