POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Foreman, the Excavator Operator is responsible for excavating trenches and structures, laying pipe and precast concrete structures, loading trucks and placing rock riprap. The Excavator Operator will also be responsible for placing shoring and trench boxes, benching and scoping.
YOUR ROLE
• Operates a crawler or rubber-tired machine mounted with an excavator bucket. May also be equipped with various hydraulic attachments (e.g. hammers).
• Performs daily inspection on equipment for issues and/or deficiencies; completes inspection paperwork daily and notifies the Foreman of any issues/defects.
• May assist the crew, when needed, in operating other equipment and/or helping the laborers on the ground.
• Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while on the jobsite (i.e. vest, earplugs, glasses, hard hat, etc.).
• Performs other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU BRING
• 5+ years of experience as an excavator operator required.
• 2+ years in underground utility construction preferred.
• Experience using hydraulic hammer attachments preferred.
• Experience with basic rigging, placing shoring/trench boxes, benching and scoping required.
• Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness in the quality of work; strong attention to detail skills required.
• Demonstrates the ability to complete the work in a timely manner.
• Demonstrates good eye-hand coordination, balance and depth perception.
• Demonstrates effective written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrates a sense of urgency in responding to all situations.
• Demonstrates the ability to work in several diverse locations, as work locations change regularly, and ability to work varying schedules. Overtime and weekend work are required, as necessary.
• Demonstrates ability to collaborate and work effectively as a team.
• Demonstrates responsibility in reporting to work on a consistent and timely basis.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The Excavator Operator is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, vibration, and loud noise. The job often involves working at high or precarious places, dealing with outdoor weather, and handling fumes or airborne particles. The Operator's tasks require standing, walking, and using hands for handling objects, as well as kneeling, crouching, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces. Physical demands include lifting up to 50 pounds and frequent movement over uneven terrain. Vision requirements include close and color vision. The Operator will face varying temperatures and increased risks from moving equipment and construction hazards on the jobsite.
PRE-SCREEN
Upon offer, employees will be required to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Must be willing to travel within the State of Texas as needed, overnight or out of town stay may be required up to 2 weeks as needed.
