Research Associate 1, SOM (Temporary)
The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Neurological Surgery is currently seeking a temporary Research Associate 1 to work in Miami, FL. The Research Associate 1, SOM (TEMP) supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.
Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.
Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research.
Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures.
Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.
Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies.
Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM
Department Specific Functions
The Departments of Neurosurgery and Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine offer a fully functional microsurgical training laboratory for residents, fellows and physicians. The Lab offers the opportunity to gain advanced training in microsurgery and endoscopic techniques in the areas of otology, rhinology, laryngology, microvascular surgery, skull base surgery, cranial surgery and spine surgery.
The CANES lab is available for continuing medical education courses, visiting fellows and surgeons from across the world, and for providing a venue to the industry for demonstration of new surgical instrumentation technology. Our team of faculty surgeons, surgical technicians and administrators have ample experience in the organization and teaching of educational and in-service events.
The Research Associate 1 will support the CANEs lab by performing anatomical dissections, preparing courses, teaching, maintaining the lab, observing surgeries, publishing anatomic work under the mentorship of Dr. Carolina Benjamin. The incumbent will also conduct chart reviews for approved research Neurological Research studies.
Department Specific Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's Degree but preferably a medical school graduate
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
* Professional experience in the neurological surgery field
* Participation in neurosurgery conferences
* Experience in a teaching capacity
* Interest and experience in writing abstracts and scholarly articles
