Position Summary:
Reporting to the SVP Technical Operations and Fleet Management, the Director of Heavy Maintenance is responsible for the management and administration of the all matters related to heavy maintenance (Predominantly C checks) In this regard, the Director of Heavy Maintenance is responsible for overseeing all heavy maintenance-related activities on the fleet. In so doing, he/she oversees all the key maintenance functions of heavy maintenance, and third-party vendor management.
The role is also a key safety position, ensuring that all Amerijet personnel, process, and procedures promote safety, security, quality, and regulatory compliance for all operations. This includes vendor management of quality, safety and compliance.
In pursuit of his/her mandate, the Director works closely with peer functions including planning, reliability, engineering, supply chain & logistics, quality assurance, technical publications, technical records, and regulatory compliance. The Director participates in an effective program of liaison with key external constituent groups, including regulators, government, suppliers, to ensure that the interests of Amerijet are coordinated with those stakeholders.
Whereas the DOM's focus is squarely on maintenance dimensions of the company, he/she also is a member of the Technical Operations leadership team of the airline. In this regard, he/she partners closely with the SVP Technical Operations and Fleet Management, Chief Operating Officer, and other members of the operations leadership team. He/she is expected to be a visible and omnipresent leader in the organization, instilling and upholding the values and culture of the company, from the leadership team to the ramp. He/she plays an active role in injecting modern and progressive approaches, processes, tools, and systems into Amerijet's maintenance operations. Given the size of the company and the corporate culture at Amerijet, the Director needs to be hands-on. It is important that the Director understands the individual roles and the systems and process used.
The Director role is initially remote based and subject to a Miami based role upon regular review.
Job Responsibilities include the following, but are not limited to:
• Monitor the administrative and technical performance of the Heavy Maintenance team to ensure that company goals and objectives and conformance with the Continuous Airworthiness Maintenance Program are accomplished.
• Assure the prompt requisition of materials and tooling required for efficient execution of assigned work.
• Know, understand, and apply applicable chapters of the Amerijet General Maintenance Manual, Operations Specifications, and applicable provisions of Federal Aviation Regulations.
• Ensure that Amerijet meets all applicable legal requirements and to maintain safe operations. Ensure the maintenance of aircraft is accomplished in accordance with federal regulations and company and manufacturers' standards. Assures that assigned personnel comply with all applicable regulations, policies and procedures.
• Serve as one of the primary liaison to the company's Federal Aviation Administration Principal Maintenance Inspector (PMI). Maintain Company liaison with the FAA, NTSB, other airlines, and other agencies.
• Develop and manage the daily cadence and daily status reports of any and all aircraft being maintained by a third party vendor
• Maintain detailed knowledge and oversight of all heavy maintenance work being performed on aircraft.
• Contribute to the selection, negotiation with, and management of all providers of contract maintenance performed on Company aircraft. Manage the cost and scheduling of Company and contracted maintenance services.
• Guarantee the integrity of all technical records being produced by the third party.. Review aircraft maintenance logs to ensure completion in accordance with the procedures contained in the General Maintenance Manual (GMM), including airworthiness releases.
• Provide active leadership in the resolution of maintenance operational issues as they arise, deploying his or her specific expertise and bringing in others as needed. Assist personnel in finding solutions to maintenance problems. Ensure that the person exercising first tier operational control is kept advised of any known or suspected delays in providing a scheduled aircraft.
• Manage and continuously improve maintenance operational performance on key dimensions such as operational reliability, on-time performance, completion factor, customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction and morale, and unit cost/CASM. Leverage existing tools and develop new tools to track the progress, cost, TAT, reliability and quality of all aircraft being maintained by the vendor.
• Assist in the review and analyze the causes of maintenance-related delays and make recommendations for improvement.
• Assist in the preparation of the Maintenance Department budgets and enforces effective financial control. Responsible for meeting financial targets and implementing financial controls. Assure the economical and judicious use of staff, materials, equipment and facilities.
• Maintain a close liaison and working relationship with the Quality Control function and all other departmental directors and managers.
• Responsible for supporting and promoting SMS throughout the company as related to maintenance. Use the SMS system to address issues with suppliers.
• Participate in duties as assigned in the Emergency Response Manual.
• Provide timely and accurate reporting of operating results and other special projects and initiatives under his or her direction. Report on the status of all aircraft, assigned personnel and equipment to the SVP Technical Operations and Fleet Management on a set routine basis.
• Serve as the key catalyst for introducing efficient thinking, approaches, practices, processes, tools, and systems into the company's maintenance operations. Consistently identify, evaluate, and implement ways to improve performance.
• Provide strong, visible, and inspired leadership to the maintenance workforce and overall maintenance department, promoting and maintaining strong employee morale. Establish high expectations for all employees regarding performance and adherence to company values and engage as servant leader that fosters a positive, inclusive, and productive work environment.
• Ensure personnel under their supervision receive on-time performance reviews in accordance with airline policy and procedures.
• As a senior member of the Technical Operations leadership team, contribute to the overall strategic and operating plan for Amerijet.
• Other duties as assigned by the SVP Technical Operations and Fleet Management.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
• A certified Airframe & Powerplant mechanic with experience working his/her way up the ranks in the mechanic workforce. High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Diploma mandatory. A Bachelor's degree or higher in Aviation or Business Discipline preferred.
• Commercial aviation industry experience, with a minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience and a well-established industry network and reputation.
• Broad-based maintenance leadership experience, having led all or a substantial part of an airline maintenance organization. Widely regarded as a strong and effective leader of people, with a Servant Leadership approach and an ability to engage and motivate a workforce.
• Ideally, previous experience as Director of Heavy Maintenance at a Part 121 air carrier. As a FAA Part 119 postholder, must meet the qualifications to serve as Director of Heavy Maintenance as specified in FAR 119.65, 119.67(e):
• Must have a thorough knowledge of:

• FAA Operating Certificate issues
• Operations Specifications
• Company operations and procedures or be able to rapidly learn the material
• Inventory policies and procedures or be able to rapidly learn the material
• Company manuals and Company training programs or be able to review materials and come up to speed quickly.
• Ideally, has demonstrated an ability to work across multiple corporate environments and to adapt accordingly.
• Experience working within carrier contexts bearing some similarities to Amerijet - dynamic environment, hands-on, resource-limited. Ideally, but not necessarily, has had direct experience with the Boeing 767
• Has ideally led effectively within lean and resource-limited work environments.
• Experience keeping maintenance costs to an absolute minimum, identifying, and pursuing creative means of cost containment, and working with people and providers inside and outside the company.
• A track record of consistent performance improvement and delivery, minimizing the cost of operation, while delivering high levels of customer service. Has demonstrated an ability to "run the planes on time, day in and day out" in an efficient manner.
• A demonstrated change agent who can overcome inertia and the inherent aversion to change among long-standing employees. Comfortable with new, different, and creative approaches to operations, and innovative in this regard.
• Prior experience with the systems, processes and tools deployed in larger companies but ideally with experience applying them in smaller company contexts.
• Experience deploying information and related technology to contain drive maintenance efficiency. Familiarity with accessing online aircraft manuals.
• Strong business and financial acumen, ideally with some direct exposure to business, non-operational domains such as finance or commercial. Experienced preparing and managing budgets.
• Prior supervisory experience including full cycle of responsibilities including hiring, training, staff development, progressive discipline and terminations.
• Experience managing geographically dispersed workforces and third-party maintenance providers, including those operating in remote and challenging environments.
• An unblemished record as related to his or her ethical integrity and that of the organizations he or she has served.
• Has the potential to grow into broader and more senior roles within the organization.
• Proven ability to make quick, confident decisions relating to the airworthiness of aircraft to ensure a safe operation.
• Rigorous, structured, disciplined, fact-based, and analytical in approach. Prior experience with the systems, processes and tools deployed in larger companies but ideally with experience applying them in smaller company contexts.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, both internally and externally. Able to communicate effectively with other departments with a clear understanding of his/her subject matter.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position will have direct reports and is considered a leader within the company. Will be required to train and support a team to achieve departmental goals.
Language Skills:
The employee must possess strong interpersonal and communications skills, be able to effectively present information, respond to questions, and proficiently write reports and business correspondence.
Physical Activities and Requirements of the Position:
Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in an office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Exerts up to 30 lbs. of force occasionally for office supplies and equipment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms; move about the facility. Some light physical effort required.
Must be able to work well under pressure. Domestic/International travel and overtime are required when necessary.
