This role assists in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician or advanced practice provider. Duties include preparing examination rooms, assisting with procedures, interviewing patients, obtaining vital signs (i.e. height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature) and recording all information in the patient's electronic medical record. The MA will interact with patients, family members, team members, and visitors in a pleasant, professional and helpful manner.
JOB TASK LIST
Escort patients to rooms, take history and vitals and document appropriately in the EMR.
Assist the providers with examinations and/or procedures as requested. Gives immunizations and performs office diagnostics/treatments i.e. - EKG, spirometry, and nebulizer treatments. Documenting and billing appropriately in the EMR.
Cleans exam rooms and equipment, performing sterilization procedures as necessary.
Keeps exam rooms properly stocked with medical supplies, forms and other materials as needed.
Triages phone calls from patients and communicates this information via the EMR to the providers. Places return phone calls as directed by the providers.
Completes pharmacy/patient refill requests as directed by the providers. Completes prior authorizations for medications when required.
Performs office lab procedures, urine dips and finger sticks. Accurately documents results in the EMR and bills for the procedure. Prepares sample for outgoing lab when required.
Monitors vaccine supply as well as the medical supplies for the office. Places orders as needed.
Maintain sample drug closet by organizing and properly disposing of all expired medications.
Assists with front office duties as needed, including but not limited to: answering phones, filing, scheduling appointments.
Assists with monitoring the fax server when needed
Complies with established departmental/organizational policies for attendance, punctuality, procedures and safety.
Monitor the patient portal, directing questions/orders to providers to address.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Education and Training: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) is Required. Must have either one (1) year of previous related experience or have graduated from an accredited program within the last 12 months. BLS is also required.
Work Orientation and Experience: Previous work experience is preferred.
Skills & Abilities: Ability to exhibit excellent customer service skills, maintaining appropriate and professional conduct. Ability to complete work in an established timeframe and demonstrate the willingness to perform other duties to assist the team effort for the benefit of patients, providers and fellow team members. Heavy lifting and the ability to transport stretcher and wheelchair patients may be required. Exhibit working knowledge of sterile techniques and special procedures involved in administering routine and special treatments to patient that are applicable to work performed. Working knowledge of infection prevention procedures and safety precautions applicable for work in a clinical office setting. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, providers and fellow team members.
