A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Physiology at Meharry Medical College to study HIV-1 biology. Research will focus on HIV-1 restriction and evasion. The successful applicant will join our lab that uses integrated virologic, biochemical, and genetic approaches to understand HIV-1 replication and transmission. Applicants must hold PhD in microbiology, molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, or other relevant fields. Previous virology experience and BSL-3 training is strongly preferred. In addition, previous experiences with human primary cells (macrophage and CD4+ T cells) is also preferred.
Daily Operations
Design and plan-research in consultation with the principal investigator
Independently performs research experiments
Analyzes and interprets experimental results
Prepare professional presentations, reports, and publications
Engages in collaborative work and coordinators activities with other members of the lab and/or with collaborators from other departments or institutions
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills
Comprehensive knowledge of research principles, methodology, and procedures in the area of specialty
Thorough knowledge of operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment and instruments
Ability to perform experiments in a timely manner
Ability to safely handle biohazardous materials
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work effectively with others
Required Education and Experience
PhD in biomedical science with an excellent track record of research. Publications required. Strong molecular biology and biochemical skills, including laboratory experience with general molecular biology techniques (cloning, DNA analysis, PCR, etc.), immunoassays (ELISA, Western blot), cell culture, and microscopy techniques required. Prior experience with molecular virology, cell biology, and medicinal chemistry strongly preferred.
