Pay: $19-$25 an hour, depending on expereince.
As a Sheet Metal Worker, you will make, put together, and set up sheet metal items and parts. You will use different kinds of sheet metal, like steel, aluminum, and copper, to build things that fit the design and engineering specifications. You will need a good eye for detail, accuracy, and the skill to understand and follow blueprints and technical sketches.
Sheet Metal Worker Required Skills
1. Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
2. Must be proficient in welding.
3. Must be able to go out into the field and take measurements to fabricate guards for conveyors and other movable machine parts per OSHA and MSHA regulations.
4. Measure, mark, and lay out work pieces using measuring tools and equipment, such as callipers, rulers, and squares, to ensure accurate dimensions and fit.
5. Strong knowledge of sheet metal fabrication techniques, including cutting, shaping, bending, and joining.
6. Skilled in using a variety of hand and power tools, such as shears, brakes, punches, welding equipment, and measuring tools.
7. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve issues or defects in sheet metal products or installations.
8. Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and precision in measuring, marking, and cutting sheet metal.
9. Strong mathematical and analytical skills to calculate dimensions, angles, and quantities of materials needed.
10. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
11. Good physical stamina and strength to stand, bend, lift, and carry heavy and bulky sheet metal products and equipment.
12. Excellent time management and organizational skills to prioritize tasks and meet project deadlines.
13. Knowledge of safety procedures and guidelines for working with sheet metal, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Required Qualifications
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Completion of an apprenticeship program or vocational training in sheet metal fabrication.
3. Valid certification in sheet metal fabrication or welding is preferred.
4. Previous experience working as a Sheet Metal Worker or in a similar role is desired.
5. Familiarity with construction industry standards and regulations related to sheet metal fabrication and installation.
6. Strong knowledge of different types of sheet metal materials and their properties.
7. Good communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and communicate with clients and project stakeholders.
8. Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and work well under pressure.
9. Willingness to continuously learn and stay updated on new techniques, tools, and materials related to sheet metal fabrication.
