Overview



Salary Range $20 - $21 plus $2 for second shift (SECOND SHIFT ONLY - Monday - Friday 2 PM to 10:30 PM + possible overtime)




POSITIONS OVERVIEW: With minimum supervision operates one or more of the following precision grinding machines to grind internal and/or external surfaces of metal objects to specified dimensions and finish: center-less, cylindrical, external, internal, surface, drill, broach, saw, gear, cutter, and thread grinders. Requires ability to select and use all types of grinding equipmnet/machines.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.




  • Setup and operate various grinding equipment to grind, sharpen, or form machine cutting tools.

  • Setup and operate induction heating equipment to braze and set carbide inserts in cutting tools.

  • Interpret planning documents, drawings, and other specifications to develop standard work procedures and fixture methods.

  • Verify accuracy of work and dimensional conformity using various quality instruments including micrometers, calipers, protractors, height gauges, surface plates, optical comparators, etc.

  • Calculate dimensions, reference points/lines, radii and angles using shop math, including geometric and trigonometric formulas.

  • Train, assist, and develop other associates in the precision grinding department.

  • Provide technical input to management regarding equipment maintenance, new equipment purchases, and consumable supplies used within the grinding department.

  • PPE required and able to work safely following safe practices, work instructions and JSAs.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to successfully perform this job.


  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

  • Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience in the grinding, sharpening, and forming of rotary cutting tools and inserts.



  • Working knowledge of manual and CNC grinding equipment, induction heating equipment, and grinding wheels, including dressing, trimming, and forming of wheels

  • Knowledge of cutting-edge geometry on rotary cutting tools.

  • Experience interpreting planning documents, drawings, blueprints, etc. using GD&T

  • Experience using precision measuring instruments to check accuracy of dimensions and surface finish.

  • Working knowledge of shop math, geometry, trigonometry

  • Ability to follow work instructions, manage time efficiently and get along with co-workers.
