Summary of Responsibility: Morris South integrates mechanical and robotic machine tending solutions to OKUMA and Tsugami CNC multi-axis lathes/Mills and is seeking a Principal Automation Engineer to cover our entire sales and support territory. This role will provide the right individual with opportunities to work for a great company in a fast-paced, growing industry. As a CNCRobotics Controls Engineer, you will assist in the electrical and mechanical integration of robotic and mechanical loading and unloading systems to CNC machine tools. This position assembles and integrates in-house custom designed loading, unloading and parts handling systems including switches, PLC's, solenoid valves, and electric or pneumatic cylinders/actuators to CNC machine tools. Qualifications & Competencies:
The successful candidate will have a degree in mechanical, automation or electrical engineering, or equivalent relevant experience. The Principal Automation Engineer must be able to read and understand drawings and schematics, previous experience developing control logic associated with the integration of robotic or mechanical systems is preferred. This position requires technical aptitude, strong problem solving and communication skills. The Principal Automation Engineer position requires traveling to install systems at customer locations, the ability to work unscheduled overtime without notice, and a valid driver's license.
High School Diploma or GED Required
7+ years relevant experience in systems engineering, design, assembly, and/or material handling; preferably related to robotic/automation systems
Work as part of an execution team and assume complete responsibility of system control function from start to finish of the project
Write controls specifications defining the functional scope of controls and the I/O requirements
Develop electrical drawing packages to meet the customer specifications and system requirements
Willingness to travel up to 80% of the time.
Ability to read, Program and debug PMC, PLC, and HMI programs
Develop operator manuals and wiring schematics
Perform system integration and debug on customer floor
Support field installation, startup and debug of systems
Travel to customer sites as needed, including overnight travel, to provide necessary support
Administer customer training sessions as needed
Support demonstration systems intended for use at trade shows, Company offices, or Customer floor.
Provide insight to other team members regarding application specific robot requirements
Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain robot mechanical units and controllers and electrical control devices.
Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic prints and related technical documentation.
Ideal candidate will have the following experience and education:
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, or related field; or equivalent relevant experience
Experience reading mechanical prints
Proficient in developing electrical drawings
Hands-on experience troubleshooting and debugging electrical systems
Proficient with FANUC Ladder-III PMC programming software
Experience with material handling, assembly, welding, or other robotic applications.
Exposure to CNC Machines and robot programming
Experience with ROBOGuide Simulation software
Proficient with Rockwell, Siemens, or other PLC programming software
Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Siemens NX.
Familiar with standard machining practices, tooling, fixtures, and gauges.
Basic Okuma and Fanuc CNC control operating/troubleshooting
