Job Description:

Provides individual play therapy to students with behavioral, social and emotional delays, as well as ongoing parent consultation on an as needed basis.

Provides consultation with teachers, teaching assistants, parents, related services staff, and administrators regarding social, behavioral, emotional and developmental issues as well as giving feedback about interpersonal dynamics when appropriate.

Provides psychological services to the classroom including but not limited to consultation, intermittent emotional curriculum, crisis intervention, and behavior management plans.

Assists in evaluating the effectiveness of programs in the classroom with regard to:


  • Behavioral issues
  • Emotional climate in the classroom
  • Group dynamics
  • Programmatic modifications
  • Developmentally appropriate interventions

  • Provides psychological evaluations, screenings, and updates on children referred to Birch, as well as those currently matriculated.
  • Designs and implements group behavior management plans for all classrooms. Individual behavior management plans may be developed for severe management problems.
  • Provides in-service training for staff and parents on relevant topics (e.g. child development, team dynamics, interpersonal problem-solving, etc.).
  • Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings.
  • Functions as a child advocate for children and families during the EI, CPSE, and/or CSE process.
  • Attends and participates in departmental meetings, supervision and school meetings.
  • Attends any and all additional meetings, activities or functions of the school as designated by supervisory staff.
  • Maintains timely clinical documentation following ethical and clinical guidelines (e.g. written reports, therapy notes, etc.).
  • Provides supervision of student externs as assigned.
  • Maintains clean and organized work areas and common areas.

Qualifications

Education

Master's Degree

Certificates & Licenses

NYS School Psychology certification.

NYS Psychology License

Experience

2-5 years working with pre-school aged students
