Distribution utilities across the globe are undergoing efforts related to grid modernization and DER integration which represents a significant transformation of the distribution system. Improvements in reliability, resiliency, and resource utilization are critical to enabling the grid of the future.
The EPRI Distribution Operations and Planning team leads research to advance the processes, tools, technology and workforce required for the future distribution system. The research programs are broad, with researchers working on topics across planning, operations, protection, and analytics. EPRI is growing our protection team who play a vital role in shaping and executing protection R&D to deliver practical solutions from concept all the way through to deployment in the field.

We are looking for energetic and inquisitive engineers with 10 – 20 years of experience in Distribution Grid Protection. Specifically, EPRI values technical expertise and applied knowledge in:
Power system faults and sequence components
Investigating power system disturbances and protection misoperations
Recloser and relay types including relay logic design and testing
DER protection challenges and mitigation solutions including inverter technologies, controllers
Collaborating with utilities to design and field-trial new protection algorithms, applications and philosophies
Short circuit simulations and protection coordination studies
Adaptive protection, microgrid protection, automated protection analysis, wide-area short circuit and time-domain protection coordination studies, and protection support for real-time operations.

The salary range for this position is $123,500 USD to $164,850 USD annually.This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including without limitation applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.This role is eligible to participate in EPRI’s annual incentive program. The amount of incentive varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the plan.This role is eligible to participate in EPRI’s standard employee benefit programs, which currently include the following: medical, dental, vision, 401k, STD/LTD and paid family leave, life and accident insurance, paid time off (flexible vacation, sick leave, and holiday pay).EPRI participates in E-Verify, an online system operated jointly by the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration (SSA).
