EPRI is looking for a PWR Materials Technical Leader III. The successful candidate will have a thorough knowledge of primary side nickel-based alloy, stainless steel alloy, and low alloy steel utilization within operating PWRs and an understanding of the associated aging and degradation mechanisms, including applicable mitigative technology. A good understanding of implementing materials aging degradation programs for the long-term operation of PWRs is a benefit. A working knowledge of ASME Code is also desired, particularly the application of Section XI to operating plants. Understanding the overall structure and industry interactions of nuclear materials organizations, including technical engagement with the NRC, is also a benefit.
Key Responsibilities and Requirements:
Works in conjunction with the MRP team in promoting risk-informed approaches and advancing the probabilistic fracture mechanics and ASME codes.
Works in conjunction with the MRP team in developing and maintaining virtual databases and advanced search tools using machine learning, AI, and digital twin concepts.
Works in conjunction with Member Services and the Export Control team to support MRP technical engagement on PWR primary side materials degradation issues with our membership in China.
Works independently on technical activities without direct supervision.
Influences project teams in the engineering aspects of the technical work.
Coordinates and facilitates technical engineering related communications with MRP members.
Leads proposal efforts and new promotional work.
Prepares proposals, technical publications/papers, and makes presentations. Acts as technical specialist for projects or project tasks.
Develops research or services opportunities of value to EPRI members that fit EPRI’s mission and capabilities. This will include solving customer problems, producing insights and information vital to the members, and delivering information in a manner that members and customers can and will apply.
Interfaces and coordinates with national and international technical networks (e.g., manufacturers, consultants, academia, and research organizations).
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in science/engineering or equivalent experience required, advanced degree preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
10-15 or more years of research and development project and promotional experience, including development of advanced concepts or equivalent experience.
Understanding of fracture mechanics and probabilistic methods.
Ability to recognize strategic issues and projects, build collaboration, and successfully complete projects.
Experience in successful proposal preparation, and marketing activities.
Shows maturity of technical expertise and assumes responsibility for highly specialized technical objectives using creative imaginative solutions.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Continuing to increase depth/breadth in multiple technical areas and recognized as a subject matter expert.
Individual contributor.
Communicates project results to advisors and members and may communicate project status to Sector Council.
Meets with member organizations to support Sector activities or to communicate Program content and strategy.
Knowledge of Extremely Low Probability of Rupture (xLPR) is a plus
